He can do decently at that level if he's arsed actually and did alright for Sunderland in the past and has for Denmark, but his problem seems his attitude and thinking he is better than he actually is.

I remember Gab say on ESPN FC that Rooney would stay at united last summer and he stayed. He also said the most likely event was Rooney getting offered a new contract and that happened too. Not saying he's got a unblemished record, but he's got some united related business right.

My hunch is Gab does have a clue or two about what's going on in Italian football.
The part about him being "promised" a job is what I find crazy.
What he did before is hardly a premonition of what he might do now, the last few times I've seen him he was kicking air infront of goal and the Arsenal fans I knew of would have paid money to keep him away from seeing any playing time.
Well he does work for Corriere Dello Sport, one of the major newspapers in Italy. More importantly, he does have a proven track record of getting things accurate with transfer news.
I think the club want to keep as many of that generation around as possible now they are all retiring. Nicky Butt was another one who was told that there would be a position for him no matter what, it will be LVG's decision as to whether or not that is a part of the coaching staff or not.
Marcotti is one of the best journalists around. Still baffled why Sky Sports, ITV or BBC haven't had him in as a pundit because he's brilliant.

I don't understand that. The clueb clearly had some positive discussions with either him, or his agent - or a bid wouldnt have been lodged. The most likely reason the deal wasnt done was because the manager changed and he decided to stay.
I dont see any negative from the club having the attitude that they will compete for the best players. Sometimes you get them, sometimes you don't but it suggests that the club are ambitious and will spend money to keep the club at the top. We'll hopefully be back in the CL next year and the only potential issue this summer in terms of bringing in top calibre players this summer will be resolved.

If Phil Neville wants a job at united he should coach one of the teams below the first team, and even then I'd say he's got to earn that job not have it given to him on a silver plate.

He's not been promised a role with the first team, he's been promised a job at United but he doesn't know the role. Don't see the problem either way, we know nothing about his coaching ability so we can't say whether he does or doesn't deserve it.

So what. This is an internet forum so I very much suspect that those people making those posts are well aware that its based on nothing but hopeful speculation. Its certainly no less tedious that the tons of overly negative posts in every thread about how this or that transfer "will never happen" - the same ones we had about RVP and Mata as it happens.
The fact that it is difficult to sign good players is not a new phenomenon. My opinion - there's only one way not to get them, and that's not to be in for them at all.
He won't be a half bad signing for us either.
Would be risky though, considering he spent all of last season injured.
