Well we have attacking players who can thrive in a wing position in the right system like Kagawa on the left of a fluid, interchanging three or Welbeck as a left wide-forward. I still think we could do with another pacy and penetrative winger however, as that was sorely lacking last season and all of our wingers besides Januzaj are more or less useless.

I suppose that's likely. Both Vidal and di Maria would equate to around £80M, so it's probably a pipe dream. Perhaps if we don't have the funds for this window or are prioritise other positions a wide player can wait until January/next summer. Looking at our current wide options, we already have raw or poor players and immediate injection of quality into the first team would be ideal.

The £80m figure is probably about right, could be closer to £100m.

If that happens, with the rumoured £15m-20m to be spent on De Vrij and Vermaelen, our total spend just this summer would be about £180m.

Add on to the Mata and Fellaini and the club would have spent around £250m on transfers in the space of 12 months.

Mental!

How so ?

If United drops Nike, their only high end clientèle will be Barcelona, PSG, Inter and City. Two of them are relatively new to the European elite with smallish global standing. They've already lost one of their biggest sellers - Arsenal.

Adidas meanwhile have Madrid, Juventus, Milan, Bayern, Chelsea, Ajax, Benfica and potentially United on their books and all of them are clubs with a rich footballing history.

Same as Adidas then really, when did Nike first start making football kits anyway?

I think it's pretty cool Southampton are making their own!

But I want Nike :(

So it's looks like Nike really are out of the running? Will be a big change.

Don't hear that too often, genuinely curious why?

For me, the best idea I saw mentioned was Adidas to make the kits, with a UNI QLO fashion line.

We should only accept to sell Evra if it is a straight swap for Vidal or Pogba. It would be unacceptable to just throw away such a great servant to the club for 2m.

I'd never even heard of Warrior until I saw their name mentioned on here a few months ago.

Who are they and what do they do? Presumably big in the US?

Just started to emerge in European football. Big in the US for lacrosse and want to break into Europe so paying out tonnes for things like the Liverpool deal, and others, so wouldn't be surprised if they go all out to try and get us.

:nervous:

Seriously, Liverpool's new home kit looks quite nice (I'd obviously like to deficate onto it), but the third kit and last year's away put me right off them. Terrible designs.

Heavily reduced role = now only allowed to pick up the cones and put them away, rather than set them out?

I like the plain way Nike design their kits. Adidas could be a nice change though.

Dunno about that mate. On a global level I'd guess probably the 90s/ Brazil for football. Nike as a brand was a relatively small in the pre-Jordan era.

Adidas meanwhile have been sponsoring big name athletes since 1936/ Jesse Owens. Forgot to mention in the previous post but Adidas is also currently affiliated with FIFA and UEFA.

I don't actually believe we have a set transfer budget. If van Gaal wants certain targets, the club will pursue them irrespective of prices. I always find this talk of a £200M budget laughable. Once the club has completed all of it's summer transfer business, the fees are unlikely to exceed that amount.

It is a crazy amount of money though, if all those deals do come to fruition. You would expect a sizeable return on that kind of outlay with a concerted title challenge. Anything else should be deemed a failure.

Fair enough! Just don't read that too often on here, a change could be a good thing.

Yeah it probably is around the 90's I don't remember any Nike football shirts before around 2000 and it maybe even later than that. Pretty sure us and Barcelona were "big deals" because it was when Nike were still starting out in football, could be wrong though.

You're right about UEFA and FIFA too, pretty big deals, also the entire MLS, a whole bloody league!

In the very unlikely event he ends up at Old Trafford, wont we have too much of a good thing? Kagawa, Mata, Rooney and JR for the no10 role. I still think we've got enough in Kagawa whose hardly been allowed to play his best role. If he refinds his form from Dortmund, we dont need anyone. Same could be said about Mata. And then there's Januzaj who will eventually play there, and kick Kagawa and Mata to the curb.

Atletico apparently spending 20m Euros on Benfica's goalkeeper Jan Oblak.

Must rate him quite highly cos Atletico usually don't spend much. Has anyone watched him play?

Surprised he's going there, will be a good investment for Atletico though as he's already great and is only 21.

Admittedly our league is shit but I'm pretty sure Benfica didn't lose a game while he was playing last season, in all competitions. Poor league or not it's a good record considering he played 28 games & kept a clean sheet in 21 of them.

Well if £200m was true Vidal and Di Maria added to what we have signed we still have £60m left for a centre back, which isnt much, just about buys you David Luiz which isnt a good thing :) We do have a good £60m+ of players that there are strong arguments to sell at the same time. Im on the sign Vidal bandwagon I have to say, was all over the Sanxhez band wagon in the newbies as well as the two perfect signings for me. Whether we are genuinely in for either of them or Di Maria is another thing altogether, every summer we get linked with 5 or 6 top top players and in time it usually seems to come out that there was own genuine interest in one of them at the most.

Personally I would like 3 or 4 more signings, we definately need at least another central midfielder and centr back I feel. Any deals like those being bandied about and a concerted title challenge is very realistic, a couple of average signings though and I think it is very optimistic, thats how weak our squad has become and thats why its worthwhile, almost imperative for me that we do spend somethign near what at first glance seems a ridiculous war chest but in todays market and what we really need ideally shouldnt be far off of the mark.

I thought he was a winger??

I think you can rest assured that Rondriguez is going nowhere but Madrid.

I wouldn't object to this transfer at all, even at the expense of Vidal. He's the type of player that will be picking up multiple Ball on'dors if he reaches his world cup level consistently over the course of a season.

Sign him up Woody, this is your superstar signing!

Santos, how highly do you rate Enzo Perez of Benfica, who we're being linked with?

Been a bit of an unsung hero for Benfica prior to this season as he hasn't got much recognition before yet he's been good. Definitely has this year with him winning player of the year, he's more than good enough for us though but I can see why people would have reservations as he's 28 and would cost around £25m. Used to be a winger but has thirved since he's been played as a box-to-box. After the Argentina game the other day he came out and said he wouldn't have signed a new contract if he wanted to leave Benfica and he renewed a couple of months ago so I'd be surprised if the links to us & Valencia are genuine.

Van Gaal might see him at close hand if he gets a start against Holland on Wednesday. Will be interesting to see.

Oh right, sorry - forgot about that.. :o

Hope you're keeping well fella?!

Exciting times ahead for the club with Van Gaal - some difference from last summer. Atleast we know what we're gettin from LvG. We were all in the fench with Moyes..
I'm good mate, you?

Yeah, I'm excited about van Gaal. Just that one appointment has improved us a shitload.
