Fair enough. I admit that I overreacted with my earlier post. Though if we are looking at it in context with your history of posts on Moyes, then can't fully blame me
;)

As with LvG and why he isn't blasted on here - there is a lot of euphoria associated with his appointment, kind of overcompensation for the negativity last season. Moyes was able to create an underdog situation and had us compete against Bayern in a knock-out competition. He did it with Everton and had them pull above their weight during his time there. The Dutch haven't achieved anything yet, their quarter final opponents, so far, have the exact same achievement as them with mostly no name players and a no name manager.
I think topping a group that had Spain and Chile is an achievement of sorts but I get what you are saying.

Ofc LvG has the personality and CV and because of that everything he says (like Mourinho) gets applauded most of the time.

However there's another obvious difference. Moyes took over the Champions and only after few weeks/months came out with statements such as you need 5 or 6 world class players to win the CL.

LvG however has an average and young squad and most ppl didn't even expect them to get out of their difficult group. So now he is just trying to take the pressure off his young squad by claiming they are not a great team. BUT unlike Moyes he didn't stop there. He gave encouragement too, by adding that through great team play and working hard for each other, they have come very far and could get champions by continuing it. He also said he didn't choose the best 23 players, but the best team of 23.

In the end similar quotes, but totally different situations and LvG was actually not all negative but gave his realistic view plus encouraging words, which Moyes did not.

In fairness van Gaal is getting our full support and probably will unless we finish 7th again. I think he might be playing mind games though, a bit like Mourinho saying that Chelsea were never in the title race and stuff like that.

LvG - maybe some of it is euphoria... yes you are probably right.
For me though there is already a stark contrast in the two managers, in terms of their mentality and what they say.

Also he has taken a pretty average Dutch squad to the top of the group which included both Spain and Chille, that with changing the formation and play due to injury before the tournament. Now the Dutch are one of the favorites for the tournament (I still don't think they have enough to win myself) however before the world cup I don't believe anyone really gave them a look in.

I've already seen enough, he is versatile and not rigid and picked a system to suit his players and instead of having a set system which he has to play. Also in terms of the mentality I prefer someone who speaks with confidence.

That being said you never know what is going to happen, however I have more confidence in LvG than I did with Moyes. Also the fact that RVP will be the number 1 striker fills me with more confidence too.

He'll also command the respect from the players I don't think Moyes could have done which is a shame, I think if Moyes maybe had won a few more things before he came to United maybe he would have done a bit better. Unfortunately you need to be the strongest in the dressing room as a manager, and I don't see how he could have ever been in a dressing room full of proven winners.

Fabregas was apparently not Mourinho's signing anyway from what i seemed.

Kroos on top of that makes even less sense.

Meh, Shaw's been better than him for the last two years

If we sold Evra I'd quite like Daley Blind. He can play both full back and central midfield, you'd assume he'd settle well, and he'd cost no more than £10 million.

According to the reports he was helll bent on leaving this summer and was in contact with Juve throughout. A bit cnutish from him if we didn't want to sell, we needed his experience.

I'd rather keep him for a year for his experience. But if he really wants to go, I think we'll sell him. Assuming the Vermaelan deal goes through, he'll then also become the back up to Shaw at left back I guess. Unless we target Blind as well, given he himself can play in a couple of positions.

I think we all agree that he should only be sold as part of a deal for Vidal.

Blind would be decent to replace Evra and just be a utility LB, DM and CB. Although I think Vermaelen will be CB/LB man.

What? Evra has been a great servant for this club and we even bought his replacement already. To exercise his clause is a bit cnutish IMO. Sure I'd like him to teach Shaw and be a locker room figure, but he's still a great LB and if he wants to play ever week, I think he deserves to be let go without putting up a fight.

You can't really call somebody cnutish off the back of some reports you've heard. Besides he has every right to look after his own career. Utd would have no qualms looking after themselves when the time came.

Not sure how good Blind is at LB in a 4.We were also linked to Koalsinac who can play both LB and CB and is a good talent.

Would signing Ashley Cole for a season on a free make sense ?
