Not sure how good Blind is at LB in a 4.We were also linked to Koalsinac who can play both LB and CB and is a good talent.

Would signing Ashley Cole for a season on a free make sense ?

Good enough to cover Shaw, you would imagine. Looks solid enough to me. And yes, I would take Cole for a year, certainly.

If Moyes came out with these quotes ("We're not a great team, we're just difficult to beat") this place would have a twenty-page thread chastising him.

Kind of funny.
Moyes wouldn't have got Holland out of the groups so there's no real comparison.

Can the Express be banned? They come out with bullshit every day with no substance, quotes or any history of any 'inside' knowledge. Today I think they are saying we will sign Rodriguez, Vidal and Carvalho. All of their stuff is made up and they have nothing reputable about them.

According to the reports he was helll bent on leaving this summer and was in contact with Juve throughout. A bit cnutish from him if we didn't want to sell, we needed his experience.

He doesn't want to compete with an 18 y.o. for his place, just as Heinze didn't want to compete with him. Why should he if he can go to another top club and play every week?

For sure.

I think we all agree that he should only be sold as part of a deal for Vidal.

I think we should use him if possible in a deal but if that doesn't work we should sell him anyway. I like the guy but he's been dreadful for a long time now and the sooner we get rid of him and put someone competent in place I'll feel a lot better.

Very strange that Evra would sign a new contract weeks before moving. He would surely have known that Shaw was on his way. Unless he just signed a contract to ensure a fee for us, and f so far play to him. There seems to be some substance to the Juve reports and if he goes then all the best to him. Been fantastic for us overall since we signed him.

Someone on here the other day, was saying that it was United who exercised the extension option & not Evra, but surely both parties would have to agree on the one-year option?

We extended the contract, not Evra. The club had the option of a one year extension.

I said when he signed his contract extension he still wanted to leave and probably would and I got laughed at. He's wanted a move abroad for a good few months now, this hasn't all come about the past few days/weeks.

Serious answer: when will people stop being so butthurt when people talk about him?

Considering how Van Gaal's statements there are carbon copies of the sort of pragmatic statements the manager we sacked a couple of months ago used to make and get slated for, it's hardly surprising that someone is going to draw comparisons and put the contexts into perspective is it?

Difference is it is coming from a manager who has coached great teams and has the gravitas to make such a comment and still have the loyalty of his players.

Nah we don't need anymore attacking midfielders.

He's a good player. He'll get a better chance to resuscitate his career and still be with a top club. Otherwise, he'll either end up at Arsenal or Spurs.

Don't think Shaw is on that at all.

Chelsea on top of 180k per week for Hazard also paid 6 million or so agent fees IIRC which SAF said was where they crossed the line.

Hope not - thats a shitload for an 18yr old alright. It was reported in a few places. Seems they all just run with same stories & its worse than ever now..

I remember that presser when Fergie was raging about Hazard & his greedy agent. He was dead right about it, but times have changed. We have several new-money clubs that are willing to pay top-dollar now & its totally f*cked up football as we know it. Its Chelsea's fault - they started the ball rolling..

Can't believe people are still talking about his wage and his transfer fee. We signed him not as a prospect but as a first team player and thus he will be paid as such. Would you want to be paid as a clerk if you get recruited as a manager just because you're in your twenties?

150k isn't though is it. I doubt Patrice was on that after 7 odd years at the club.
I'd say we have maybe 3 players on 150k or more a week.

Meh, Shaw's been better than him for the last two years

He's been a good player and diplomat to United and regularly played more games in a season that most other players. So, he's had a change of heart, it happens. No need to get bitter about it.

Bitter? are you serious? My reaction was that I'm not too fussed about him leaving. He's been a good player for us but he's probably past it now. If he goes, then fine, we've already got a better player replacing him.

Agreed. If Paddy does want to leave then I wish him luck, he's been a terrific player for us and I'll miss him but he's been a great servant for the club and if he wants a new challenge so be it.

I think Blind could develop into a top class DM but equally he's a good option both at left back and centre half. Won't cost a bomb either. It's a no brainer if Evra goes.

This Shaw is at 150k/week stuff was only said by a goal.com journalist. All the other reliable ones like Ogden etc have said it's a 100k contract.

Jamie Jackson, who was pretty spot on with Luke Shaw news, was the first to say he would be on £100k. So that's most likely the case.

Your post read as bitter - regardless of what you say. Had he stayed I think Shaw could only have learned from Evra's vast experience. Evra is STILL a good player.

incidentally, watching one of England's games in the last few weeks in which Shaw played, one of the commentators accused him of exactly the same problem Evra is often accused off, that is, good on the attack but not as good in defending.

What's Funny about Manalos? He was very good this WC actually for Greece. Dunno how good he is actually though.

And think that AS article also says he has still rejected Liverpool. :p Not sure him going to Arsenal would be great news either.
