Yeah sign him up and if god forbid he has a bad game against lets say Liverpool, all of you who are crying out for him would be the first ones saying, he's too old and he was slow to react etc, or would make excuses for his poor performance(s) because he was your 'muppet' signing, I'm just waiting for it.

Lets start the season with Fellaini and Cleverley in midfield

Bit of English passion, gut, spirit and hairy industry.....Tim Sherwood's dream team.

Seriously, I give up if we don't, at least sign some 14 year old midfielder this year

Do you just know nothing about football or are you on a massive wum?

Oh noes a bad game against Liverpool. Ronaldo had bad games against Liverpool did that make him a lesser player?

Were you one of those saying no to RVP? Then when he was winning the title you were singing his name. Looks like it.

It's probably not the smartest investment but that's the position we're in. If we get 3 good years from him and he's a big part of getting back into Europe it will look a snip. I don't care if we spend £30m, £90m or £250m in the summer as its not my money, but I do care about where it's spent.

Peanuthead is a terrible poster

We need a short term fix more than anything. To attract the kind of players that we supposedly want, the likes of Reus and Hummels, we need Champions League football. Having Schweinsteiger in midfield would go a long way towards sorting our midfield issues for next season, and next season is what is most vital right now. He may not be one of the best midfielders in the world four years from now, but right now he is and a team with problems such as ours can't afford to turn up our noses against the likes of him. One of my favorite players and even if we get to see the best of him for only two-three seasons, this deal would be worth it. Get back in the top four and then strengthen more from a position of strength. My only fear is that we are being used again for a better contract, we always seem to.

Good point! I agree with everything except the "being used for a better contract" part. He has been at Bayern for a long time and is one of their modern greats. He is a no-fuss player and is a fan favourite. He is one of their captains. I believe Bayern aren't an ungrateful club and would certainly honour his wish for a better contract if that was the case. I think not fitting into Pep's plans could be the problem for him and so he is being let go.
Also, that idea doesn't please my inner muppet. :)

So would I, I think he'd be terrific for us.
Woodward would be ridiculously baffled by the way Bilbao do their dealings. Bayern somehow bypassed it with Martinez, but even they hit a few roadblocks. I think Herrera's buy out clause increases by like €5m by the time the window opens too. I'd love him, but it'd never happen.

It's not the CEO that deals with figuring out contract and legal details. Every club hires lawyers to do that. You're right that Herrera's buyout clause has increased from last summer though.

If we sign Bastian, we really are just like Milan. It would be such a desperate signing. We are Manutd, we don't be desperate.

Our ManUtd way is not what we need right now. We need a quick fix to get back into CL football without wasting anytime.

Its not that we've host of options available and players like Pogba , Vidal , Modric and others are desperate to join us. We're limited in our attraction due to the lack of CL football and we need to pounce as soon as a quality player is available regardless of price and age.

You guys aren't living in the real world, continue to think signing him is good thing. I just have to laugh at you clowns.
then not signing anyone is a good thing?

Schweinsteiger would be a stop gap. He would stem the flow for a couple of seasons like a Ballack type signing.

If money wasn't a limitation we would be getting business done like most other top clubs. Obviously the Mata signing was an indicication we are prepared to but at that time CL football (or even European football) wasn't off the radar. I wonder how the end of season finish changes things with Woodward and the budget.

When my mate told me in the gym last night that Fabregas had joined Chelsea I called BS for about 10mins before checking my phone and verifying it. I then moaned about it for the rest of the session.

In the sauna was it?! :D

Every single midfielder we're linked with someone says "No, I don't want him". Then who the feck do you want???

BTW, how long does it take to "prepare a bid"? Didn't Ferguson sign Cantona by simply asking the Leeds manager over the phone?

Ya. I think the Leeds chairman rang to make an offer for Irwin. SAF happened to be in the room at the time, said no and chanced his arm for Cantona.

To be fair transfer fees were much smaller back then so it didn't take long to count all the money and you would probably fit it all in the one suitcase!

Just because I don't want a player who most of you want and the reasoning maybe stupid, fine.
You are missing the point. Sit back, take a few deep breaths and read your posts and the responses to your posts after the one where you called others a clown.
No one has an issue with you cause you don't want Bastian. You are saying that you can voice your opinion etc, well that holds true for others too. If you are calling others a clown and saying that they are living in some other world for wanting Bastian(or any player), then you don't clearly understand the meaning of "letting people voice an opinion" or argue/discuss someone's opinion. Or you are hypocritical about it. Relax.

Schweinsteiger now and Strootman in January, and we'd go a long way towards a strong, world class midfield with added depth and quality...

Schwein would be immense, wouldn't mind one bit about Fabregas if we pull it off, always looked like a muppet signing, but he may be out the door, and if Barca just bought Rakitic and RM have a plethora already, I'd hope we are at the front of the queue...

@scorgasm Who's the Sagna tweet about? City?

For city I'm assuming

Yes Sagna is signing for City thankfully. There were a few reports over the last few days that he rejected us in favour of City but not sure how much truth can be attached to those.

Exactly what happens if Schweinsteiger gets injured? Back to our mediocre group.

Correct. A lot depends on the formation if he wants 4-2-3-1 then we need 2 mids this summer. If he wants 4-3-3 with one in fron of the defence then there is an argument to suggest that Schweinsteiger is enough with Rooney and Mata ahead of him (very attacking but LVG does like that). It all depends what he is thinking.

Yeah, City, sorry should have made that clearer. Supposedly rejected us although nowhere / nobody reliable has said as much.

Every player that signs for City rejects us, not least because City tell each player who signs for them to intimate we were in for them but also because the press use United to get clicks and sell papers.
