Redcafe in summer 2009 - "we need a midfielder baad, Carrick is shit, Hargreaves is crocked, Andersons fat and Gibson is dogshit"

Redcafe in summer 2014 - " we need a midfielder NOW, Fellaini is shit, Fletcher is crocked, Anderson is fat and Cleverly is dogshit"

This may sound a bit crazy but why don't we sign another midfielder? That might be pushing it we've only signed two in the last 8 seasons and one of them was Fellaini :(

If (big if) we do get Schweinsteiger, I'm fairly confident LvG will go for another midfielder in the window. Probably one of his Dutch kids. On that last note you made, Schweinsteiger and Fellaini would be great to watch too

Spot on sir! Very good!

The rumor does have some legs to it, I'd be buzzing if we signed Schweinsteiger look at Toure his 31 and still going strong.

I'd maybe take Clasie if we could get him for around 10-12M, and than go for Strootman in January

I really don't know how to feel about this. I'm not overly bothered we haven't signed Fabregas but am also slightly worried he's gone to a PL rival. LVG surely must have other irons in the fire, you'd think anyway.

That's all possible, and I accept all the caveats about his position and limitations, but for the price Chelsea paid, surely Cesc represented the very definition of "value in the market" that has put us off so many other midfield targets in the past 6 years. That's what is making me feel pain. Chelsea look shrewd and we look unfancied.

I agree it is bizarre to say no to a player of the likes of Schweinsteiger. Even more when Fabregas is gone. He isnt a long term solution agreed. But he would be instantly improving us by quite a few notches. His engine is his biggest strength IMO and it should be good for atleast 2 years imo. And our current midfield lacks the engine more than anything else. The two years that he can provide to us should be enough to rectify our midfield situation by either buying world class players or promoting the youth(pearson). I dont know how one could say no to him. Even more when he wants to come or is being let go for whatever reasons. You cannot pass on offers like these for players of his calibre who play in the position we need to strengthen in the most for a role which is absolutely vital.

Perhaps we'll muddle through until Strootman in January.

You guys aren't living in the real world, continue to think signing him is good thing. I just have to laugh at you clowns.

Can someone explain how this guy got promoted with one like?

The latest batch of newbies in the last few months have to be the worst.

How the hell did Schweinsteiger go from arguably the best CM in the world to a "desperate signing" in just one season?

Seriously.... how do such clowns come up to mains nowadays?

Carrick is great these days don't you know....And we just won the PL and CL...Bastian ain't good enough for us

Christ....I said this in another thread...The season after we won the CL, no one cared about strengthening the positions we needed...We sign Berba, a player, we didn't need and this place goes into meltdown.

Anyone who thinks Bastian is not a good thing is beyond me.....Unless you are of the opinion that English passionate industry, funny hair and elbows is what we need, then I'm at a loss here

Some of you forget we are at rock bottom, in terms of our standards.....We need anyone who can improve us...

Gone are the days of Fergie signing, say a 21 year old Thiago and turning him into a world class player over time.....You want results, you take the best you can get right now

We need a short term fix more than anything. To attract the kind of players that we supposedly want, the likes of Reus and Hummels, we need Champions League football. Having Schweinsteiger in midfield would go a long way towards sorting our midfield issues for next season, and next season is what is most vital right now. He may not be one of the best midfielders in the world four years from now, but right now he is and a team with problems such as ours can't afford to turn up our noses against the likes of him. One of my favorite players and even if we get to see the best of him for only two-three seasons, this deal would be worth it. Get back in the top four and then strengthen more from a position of strength. My only fear is that we are being used again for a better contract, we always seem to.

He didn't fecking reject us. People need to stop believing everything they read. Every average to good player that signs a contract with another club this summer is going to do so by "rejecting united". Get used to it, by the end of the summer there's going to be 50+ players who signed for someone and in doing so "rejected United"
Chill the feck down!

I am not one of those who believes every player rejects us. The point I was making is that even if some player does reject us or has rejected us he has valid reasons now.

Highly possible most of them rejected us....A lot of people forget that, by our own standards, we are in the shit. Big time....Especially those to whom we compare ourselves with

Green smilies etc say what you want, I honestly don't care. You guys don't have to agree with me, its a forum and I'm voicing my opinion.

And you are telling people they are not living in the real world because they want Schweinsteiger.

At 29-30 he isn't that old too. Age can be only question mark anyone can have because he is still very good. We can easily get 3 or so good years out of him and which isn't bad at all. Look at how much Juve benefitted from Pirlo who was lot older when Juve signed him for free. Yes, he has good support in Pogba et al, but Pirlo's experience was crucial for them in getting back to dominating Serie A.

This...Thank you!

I genuinely can't believe how picky people are right now.....Did anyone see last season?

This ain't no "long term project" no more!....This is, "get the hell up that table now!!"

Robin van Persie had just turned 29 when he moved to United in august 2012. Schweini turns 30 on august 1st. I can't see the age as an issue, he still has 3-4 years to play at highest level. We talk about one of the 5 best central midfielders the last 3 years...

Only worry about Bastian is his injury record. Apart from that there could be no question about his ability at all. I mean thats not even arguable. But can some regular German football follower explain how his injury record has been in the last 2-3 seasons.

Exactly.

Idea summer of transfer is experienced CM and CB. Young LB which looks to be Shaw and another CM.

I have no issue if we do sign him provided that at least one other CM is bought that isn't Strootman in January.

36-45-36 games respectively in last 3 seasons. Given Bayern's league has only 34 games per team, it is decent. He has bit of injury record but this doesn't make a bad reading. Will be interesting to hear from a Bundesliga expert though on his injury record and actual game minutes. Still, I don't think that is something which will worry us much given we don't have European fixtures to worry about this season.

I am hoping Bastian and someone else who is decent/young and has good prospect. Jordy Clasie maybe. Have never seen Clasie play so will be watching him closely tonight.
