It looks like we are not going to get Sanchez. If he goes to Liverpool or Arsenal then it will be really disappointing. Surely Manchester United is a bigger attraction than them too. No Champions League for one year shouldn't be a deal breaker imo. Also I wonder if this shows that we won't get Vidal. Surely if United were confident of signing him they could let Sanchez know and that could sway him. I suppose it's all speculation and we could sign him tomorrow.

We're not going to get every player we are interested in. Sanchez is not a priority imo. We need another midfielder, whether its Vidal now or Strootman in the winter window.

Who says United want Sanchez? I really don't think a winger is necessary and even if it was it seems like cuadrado is wanted more.

It'll be fun digging up posts from the smug Liverpool fans who were absolutely sure that Suarez would give them another year.

Great deal for Real! Such a shame that LvG didn't want him, but Herrera will be amazing for us

Caudrado more versatile and consistent
He's got good stamina and is pacey but doesn't strike me as an intelligent footballer. Although I've watched very little of him. He's also 26 so he hasn't got too many years to play as a winger at top level, 4 seasons maybe at best.
40m for him isn't good value I think. I'd prefer Moura.

His age isn't an issue. He's exactly the same age as Di Maria and Sanchez.

I think we did. Then Madrid came steaming in. Looks like the end for Alonso as a starter unless they get rid of Di Maria.

But he relies on his pace a lot and that's his best attribute whenever I've seen him play.

Also, Di Maria and Sanchez are different class.
So because they're a different class their age isn't an issue? They are both equally reliant on pace.

So the rumored 40m is the right valuation of him?
I said they're on a different level because of the fee being quoted by these outlets. The players you mentioned are so technically gifted that age wouldn't be as much an issue for them, well no one can say for sure.

As said he's more versatile. If we go for him, it does indicate that Van Gaal is looking to move to a 3-5-2 system. He used to be a right back, and moved to a winger role, but can still play in that right back/wing back role. If we get this guy, i think we'll see 3 defenders, Shaw and Caudrado as wing backs. Herrara, Mata and someone else in midfield. Rooney and Van Persie up top.

Not really, we need a winger regardless of formation. He's only playing 3-5-2 because he doesn't have a natural left back with Netherlands, it's unlikely we'll play it next season.

Ffs.....Not this again. If you pay attention to what Van Gaal has said, you would know that he's only using that formation to get the best out of certain players.

Really wish we brought in Kroos. Especially for the £20m price being touted. One of the drawbacks of firing Moyes so early. I think he'll be brilliant at Madrid and in a few years time most people will say it was a mistake not to bring him in. I mean Herrera is good but Kroos is top class. I'm sure we'd have found room for him somewhere when we have players like Carrick, Fletcher and Cleverley as a few of our starting midfielders next season.

 :nono:

There are no drawbacks to firing Moyes this early. He should have been fired in February, you know..when we still could've salvaged our season. Van Gaal's not an idiot, if Kroos fitted within his plan for United he would have bought him, you never know, we still might buy him.

I don't know about that, I think he just rejected us for the more appealing side of Madrid. I'm pretty certain Moyes wouldn't have been able to get him, and would have just made him a top target and failing which would have led to us being behind on other targets. I think Herrera will be brilliant also, I agree he isn't as good as Kroos but he'll have just as good an impact I do feel. One thing he has over a lot of midfielders out there is his ability to play with the ball under intense pressure. That's huge, even some of the elite aren't very good at that.

Nah I don't buy that, I really like what I've seen from LvG so far but saying things like that is just blindly following the manager. Kroos would grace any of the biggest football teams in the world. As I've said, we'd make room and he would instantly become our best midfielder if he came here. He's proven to be versatile too and can play a various number of positions in midfield. Cleverley is still at this club and it doesn't look like he's going anywhere, what plan is there that could possibly involve him and not Kroos?

Again, you're missing the view that he just flat-out refused us and we're peddling this 'doesn't fit the system' story to save face.

There are countless reports saying we had agreed to sign him only for LvG to veto the deal.
