RE: Vidal, Telegraph, Ogden.....

Best case:
United have completed deals for Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera for £30m and £29m respectively and want to at least one more defender and another energetic, creative midfielder. They are likely to bid for Juventus's Arturo Vidal, who starred for Chile at the World Cup. United are determined to flex their muscles this summer.

On the wanted list:
Vidal, plus any of Nigel de Jong, Daley Blind, Stefan De Vrij, Edinson Cavani and William Carvalho.

Mark Ogden piece.

I am sure I read the exact same stuff from Ogden a couple of weeks ago, with the only difference thant Herrera and Shaw weren't done deals back then. He is very well informed obviously, but since the appointment of LvG I've got the impression he doesn't know too much either.

Yep he posted the exact same thing pretty much, just updated the Shaw/Herrera thing and chucked a few more names in. Seems like he's just covering his arse with the line about Blind/De Vrij/Carvalho/De Jong etc.

While normally I trust Ogden, this piece does seem highly speculative. I genuinely believe that most of the press really have no idea about what we are upto this summer and I am loving it.

That piece is just a rehash from the other month. They're all out in Brazil at the moment. For the most part, the broadsheets are currently in the dark. The only solid leak is the Vermaelen deal, which has came from the Arsenal and Belgium camp.

Clearly its recycled when he says our worst case scenario is that we end up like last year. I think Herrera and shaw signed before July means we're a million times better off than last year

Certainly the way the transfers were handled was a million times better.

When Herrera news broke, he basically came out and said it is not true, "firmly ruled out by United" were his exact words. Woody is running a closed shop these days, I doubt anyone really knows what's going on.

Wow, quite a few bitter people here. They qualified for Europe, we didn't. Nobody is claiming they're a bigger club than us or anything. Let them have their joke, feck me when you're a small team like that you have plenty of shite to live through so let them enjoy their moment in the sun.

People on here getting offended by those Aberystwyth tweets is ridiculous.

Precious bunch.

How is it working?

Like other said, it's getting them attention. Look at the retweets they're getting, we're talking about the tweets now. It's excellent PR work from them.

Like people have said, Ogden ruled out Herrera the day before he signed.. it would seem the ever reliable Ogden is in the dark as to what are plans are.

This situation appears to be a little different. Herrera genuinely came out of the blue, and wasn't a protracted saga as Sanchez is becoming, with multiple clubs involved. Zubizarreta has now publicly confirmed that there are offers for Alexis, if we were one of the clubs in for him, somebody reliable somewhere would have reported it by now. Nobody has. The focus appears to be on a midfielder, and a centre-half.

Jesus, some people are strangely touchy about that Aberystwyth banter. It's quite funny. And if you're asking why they would do it twice, it's probably exactly because of reactions like those seen in this thread. Chill people.

If we're acting silently in the transfer market, as seen with the Herrera deal, then I don't think that Ogden is going to be all that reliable. Last year he was the mouthpiece of United, but I think this season, and who knows maybe for many seasons to come, he'll be late to the party and it'll be the local stations/reporters like Cadena Ser that are the most trustworthy.
