Ogden's latest update in the telegraph seemed speculative to me. He isn't getting briefed as much.

I personally don't see anything in the links between us and Vidal. I think we're going to continue silently in the market as we did with Herrera, as Joemo said. That's not to say we won't sign Vidal, we might be preparing a bid for him, but I don't think the papers know anything, they're just linking us with the best.

Don't see Vidal happening. £50+ potentially on a 27 year old could be spent better on somebody else.

Definitely. The biggest "hint" so far has been van Gaal saying that he wanted to buy him before he went to Juventus. Other than that there's nothing to suggest that we're even considering it.

He's just turned 27, we could easily get 5 great seasons out of him. Gerrard is 34 and has only recently shown signs of slowing down so 32 isn't exactly a major ask for a professional sportsman.

Also LVG probably isn;t looking too long term (at leats not with this signing). If LVG is only here for a 3/4 year spell then he'll want to be successful ASAP and Vidal would help with that

Zubi: "Regarding Alexis, there have been offers. We will try and find a solution best for everyone." Basically means he is off.

FFS, apparently now people consider 27 to be reaching the end. Dear me, he's one of the best midfielders in the world and chances are he won't start to degrade physically for AT LEAST 5 or 6 years. He'll only reach his peak in the next few years, I'm quite willing for him to do that at United.

Southampton have agreed a fee with FC Twente for Serbian midfielder Dusan Tadic, I'm told

I think it has a lot to do with the FIFA video game. Players on that decline rapidly after 29. It's brainwashed a whole generation and it's even rubbing off on people who don't play FIFA.

And if that money was spent on a young talented prodige people would be up in arms that it's too much money to spend on a young, inexperienced player ala Shaw. United can't win.

Also told Michael Duff has agreed a new contract with newly promoted Burnley

Not big news, but PL related at least.

Clearly its recycled when he says our worst case scenario is that we end up like last year. I think Herrera and shaw signed before July means we're a million times better off than last year

Bit of an exaggeration. I think we're about halfway to where we should be at the moment.

Manchester United have agreed a €10m deal with Feyenoord to sign highly-rated centre-back Stefan de Vrij. (Gazzetta Dello Sport)

Considering his style of play, that's optimistic.

We could reasonably expect 10 very good years from Kroos. It'd be a result if we got more than 3/4 from Vidal at his best.

Will Hughes: Delighted to have a signed a new deal at Derby! Hoping for a big season this year ⚽

I am really not trying to get excited about all these Vidal links, but there is quite a lot of noise.
It's a shame most people don't consider we are in for Sanchez though

I do rate Vidal, it's just I feel united need a purely defensive midfielder not necessarily a box to box type like Herrera.

A bit condescending. Up until a few years ago it was United's transfer policy to not spend big on players aged more than 26 years. Unless you believe Fergie and Gill spent hours playing FIFA together, there's more to it than that.

I'm not sure that's true. I remember some papers ran with the idea that the Glazers wanted Fergie to exclusively target young players but it didn't stop him spending £30m+ on 27 year old Dimitar Berbatov, or £17m on Hargreaves at around the same age.

Agreed. Hopefully when Van Gaal gets a look at our current wide options first hand, it scares him into pushing for a deal with Di Maria/Moura/Cuadrado.
I'd put money in it that we won't be getting any new wide players in. Think Nani will be the only player leaving in that area and maybe Zaha on another loan.
Ashely Young needs to feck off, but can't see it

As far as I remember, it wasn't until the Berbatov transfer kind of backfired that the Glazers, according to the papers, decided that we shouldn't spend that kind of money on players with little sell-on value. And then we made an exception with RvP because he was too good to turn down, and when he went on to win us the title we probably dropped the whole idea. But yeah, I don't believe anyone at the club said that it out loud. It was widely reported though.

I hope the Sanchez saga isn't resolved in a hurry so that LvG can evaluate our squad (when he goes on the pre season tour) and make a move for him.
