Tbh, we could do with bit of de jong in the middle.

Hes not good on the eye de Jong but someone like him protecting the back 3/4 is what we need .
Ive watched shelvey and cattermole kick us to pieces and we need someone in the middle to dish it out as well .
Were a bit to soft at present and were being bullied .

Technically you are right, he could fail his medical and this the mainly the main reason that this deal fall through. Although logically, everything is set for the deal to go through as Di Maria's wife liked a manutd image on Instagram.

Blind was used as a LB due to the lack of better alternatives for Holland during the WC, he's seen as an option there due to the fact that he used to play there early on in his career, so he knows how to play the role.
Tho, in the past 2 years Blind has had a MAJOR breakthrough since being moved to DM, he's been arguably the best player in the Eresdivise for 2 seasons now, which culminated with him winning player of the year last season.

Blind was better last season, then Strootman was in his last year at PSV, he was an absolute force and how people continue to under estimate his qualities there are beyond me, really suggests that loads of people here base their opinion on him on his World Cup performances.

I'd have thought, based solely on the WC (as I don't watch much Eredivisie at all) that it was at CM options where they were short (with Strootmans injury) & hence they used the 3-5-2. But by your post, wouldn't Blind have been a very good stand in for Strootman then to continue the 4-3-3? Very surprising to hear he's been that good as a DM but it's a welcome surprise nontheless.

The Di Maria transfer clearly indicates that we have money to spend and will push the boat out if LVG requests it.

They haven't pulled out - reports and facts are two different things. He will go to Bayern.

Correct, and in the biggest games like the CL final for example he ended up on the left, also had a great season on the left in 04-05 when we played 4-3-3/4-5-1 with him, RvN and Ronaldo up front.
