I hope LvG knows that RvP is going to extend his contract here, which I don't believe. Can't believe we're selling him.

Why? Because Van Persie and Rooney represent the future? If it's Van Gaal's decision to ship off Welbeck than that's the first major decision that I strongly disagree with (not sure if the reports on us having any chance to sign Kroos were true, where it was also said Van Gaal didn't fancy him)...

I think that the stipulation that Welbeck must play for a club outside the top six is designed to drive him to another country. Certainly United know that Welbeck isn't going to settle for any less than there, therefore, a move to Italy or Spain would be ideal, not only for us, but for him also.

We have to be a little more objective when assessing United's squad. The reason many people are still struggling to come to terms with this potentially happening is because they don't actually understand LvG's approach to tactics. I've heard numerous times that the suggestion is he should be utilised on the left forward side of a 4-3-3, but he makes no tactical sense considering the role of such a player in his system doesn't match him at all.

He's third, or fourth in the line to a central striking place, and if 4-3-3 is implemented, there's already going to be the debate on how to make RVP and Rooney co-exist, let alone give Welbeck minutes on the field.

You'd drop Rooney or Rvp for him? If you would, do you think LVG can given he's kept them both?

I would. I don't think Welbeck is a better striker than either of them but I think he adds balance to the side. We have a severe lack of pace when those two start together, especially when Mata is behind them. I also think Welbeck is much better at link up play than Rooney, and he's probably better than RvP in thag aspect as well (though there isn't much in it). The goals will come if he's given a run as a striker, and even if he isn't directly scoring the team as a whole looks much better with him in the side.

If Welbeck does leave, he should try for Juve/Roma. He'd gain a lot more respect. Would be a very big change in surroundings but I think he could nail it.
Not sure Italy might be the right option with so much racism going on. Not saying he is going to be racially abused but if it comes up, he will have to put up with it.

I strongly disagree too, but it's even worse when you think about that we could very well be without RvP next year. It's just frustrating seeing him leave and a guy like Valencia getting an extension.

This will be a Sturridge-esque mistake.

I can't believe we're selling Welbeck. Absolutely horrendous decision. He's only out attacker who can carry the ball and is quick.

As Rooney would say I am angry and confused right now.

Welbeck would be a loss. He's produced some good performances in big games and I think he's a good link between midfield and strikers. Let's not forget we also have Wilson and maybe Keane in the background. Would we sacrifice Welbeck to bring in a winger? I think we might. Was expecting it to be Hernandez though.

If the player wants to leave as he isn't guaranteed be a regular starter what should LVG do? Likewise if LVG doesn't rate him as good enough what do you suggest he does?

Hmm...sell him to a German club...Dortmund maybe. A you scratch my back I'll scratch yours kinda thing.

Not Keane, that injury has done for him. Nowhere near the player he was.

I prefer Welbeck to Hernandez, frankly. Chicharito gets into great positions but his overall linkup play is not of someone who I'd consider United quality.

I think most people think that LVG and United WANT to sell Welbeck but what if he really wants out? What if he wants to play every week? So stop it with the "I can't believe we are selling Welbeck" until more evidence comes out that we are the ones who actually want him gone.

Agreed with this. Juve are after Hernandez after. Plus he'd have Evra and Pogba at Juve and A. Cole at Roma so would at leave have one or two familiar faces.

Nail on the head..... IF, and that's predicated on the assumption that we're transitioning to a 4-3-3.

I'll say it again. in an LvG 4-3-3, the two winger forward's remaining high and stay wide for the sake of stretching play out. Welbeck absolutely doesn't suit these instructions. Can you really see Welbeck maintaining his position there? A natural wing forward in exchange for Welbeck would be a good move, despite the immediate panic of United fans on here.

Can't believe the toys being thrown out of the pram re: Welbeck. I'd hate to see him go, don't get me wrong, I think he really brings something when he plays, but to say you'd rather we sold Rooney/RvP is actually mental. All the abuse being thrown at LvG too, good grief, it's embarrassing.

Couldn't agree more. Chico also being slated, too. The hysteria that would be caused on here if he leaves, would be embarrassing.

We've got too many attacking players - Rooney, RvP, Hernandez, Danny, Mata, Kagawa, Januzaj and now Wilson and possibly Di Maria. Something's gotta go.

As much as I like/rate Kagawa and Hernandez, they should be sold before Welbeck.

I think you're right, and Danny's come through our ranks.

So maybe he wants out. But it's of course not that simple. Why does he want out? Has he been told he doesn't fit into the manager's plans?
He should be, at least, our third choice striker in the 352 set-up (I'd couple him with either of our world class slow boys and sit one on the bench). If we're playing 433 he can play in any of the 3 attacking positions. His link up play is about a couple of light years ahead of Hernandez, and better than Valencia and Young too.

It simply makes very little sense to sell him

Who has abused LVG?

I do think he'd turn into an excellent starter given consistent first team football. He just won't get it here, and Sturridge wouldn't have got it had he stayed at city or Chelsea later. It just won't happen. My only hope is we put a buy back clause or only give him a loan if he wants to go.

Depending on where he goes I'm sure we could insert a buy-back clause.

It's only a matter of a few weeks ago everyone on here was saying we'll accept unpopular decisions by LVG because he believes they're right for the club, whatever they are. Now Welbeck may be involved all hells let loose. Funny old game isn't it!

He can't play in any of the three forward positions. Like I've explained previously, the winger forward positions in the 433 are specialist, lvg himself even said so. Welbeck would have to stay wide left and not drift inside. That's just not Welbeck's game.

I've seen no abuse directed towards LVG, unless disagreeing with him is classed as abuse.

Bit rich coming from you after last season.

If We're going to use Di María/Januzaj, makes sense to keep Hernández, he does get on the end of those crosses.

Abuse? People are disagreeing with the decision. Is that abuse?

at the end of the day I back Van Gaal to do what is needed to take us back to the top.
If it means sacrificing a guy who has never held down a regular starting role for more than 4-5 games, then so be it.
Especially if it does mean bringing top talent in.

Shame when their homegrown, but there's no prizes won on that alone.
