If you want some perspective look at the name next to "manager".

De Gea was still very raw then too.
Hmmm....What's interesting about that is, our defence of Smalling, Jones and Evans were just as shit then, as they are now.
I've seen this, don't forget Arsenal fielded a largely average and typically spineless side that day. It was a freak result anyway.
Aye but De Gea has improved and is fulfilling the potential he's got....The other three however, are another story

I still don't believe that it's a great side. Sure it lost the league on goal difference, but to a City side that was less than amazing. Chelsea were no great shakes during this period either. Arsenal were Arsenal. And Liverpool weren't even on the scene. My point is that our title rivals have all significantly strengthened since the game while we're still reliant on some of the players from that day. That was a fairly typical team from us though, and we only lost the league on goal difference despite having a ridiculous amount of injuries in comparison to our rivals. It's still a useful reminder in light of recent comments.
Yep, that was pretty much what I meant by that.
Don't wink at me, I'm not your boyfriend
Sorry, couldn't resist
Yeah, the 2008 great side has been ebbing away and that year we struggled abit despite winning a lot of games, needed Van Persie to fire us back the following Summer. We have bought poorly in the last 5 years (in terms of building) and that is why we have been left in a situation where all the legends from 2008 have gone, and the ones who were bought around 2011 time aren't up to it. So we need to splurge a load of cash now to save ourselves.I still don't believe that it's a great side. Sure it lost the league on goal difference, but to a City side that was less than amazing. Aye I mean why wouldn't they have improved being playey sporadically out of position?Aye but De Gea has improved and is fulfilling the potential he's got....The other three however, are another story
Pretty much. The squad has been dying a slow death for a couple of years now, in need of some serious resuscitation now.Yeah, the 2008 great side has been ebbing away and that year we struggled abit despite winning a lot of games, needed Van Persie to fire us back the following Summer. Don't think this has been posted but just to offer a bit of perspective....
I'll agree with you on that one. That, I can understand somewhat in the case of Smalling and Jones.
But not Evans
That team in 2011 wasn't as bad as it looks on paper in 2014. Nani was a top player around the time (he also scored a screamer vs Chelsea I think), Young started off very well. Cleverley was showing promise and anderson was at the start good, he's always been talented barring injuries/fitness. Welbeck was good until he did his hamstring and went off the boil a bit. Rooney was on fire - his all round 2011 performances were very good after a shit second half of 2010. Ironically, DDG was probably a weak link at the time.
Then it would be something different of course, but holding out for a better price, even if the fee is already fair isn't a necessary strategy IMO, especially if there's always the risk of us missing out. What if they're demanding £70 or £80 million because they're well aware United are under pressure to buy.
The club seem to have numerous targets. I suspect ideally they'd wrap them all up quickly at around the same time so the other clubs involved donet get wind of it.
I don't think there's any player in Serie A who isn't for sale at the right price right now. The league really has regressed.Roma seem very open to offers for Benatia.

The italians always sell at the right price.
Seems to be the case yeah. Except Strootman. They're going to slap a massive price on him. What is his buyout £79m?I don't think there's any player in Serie A who isn't for sale at the right price right now. The league really has regressed.
Yeah but they're always commenting (I'm sure they're asked) on him. I think if a €40m offer came in - he's off but doubt anyone will pay that.Considering they met his agent today and offered him an extension I wouldn't be so sure.
Djourou, Jenkinson and Traore in the back four, no wonder they conceded 8 [/QUOTE]

I don't think Strootman is an exception. Yeah they said they wouldn't sell him for a certain price. But they made the same noises about Benatia earlier in the summer.
Probably, but I'd suspect it wouldn't be too difficult tempting Juventus with a big fee. Whereas say he was at Chelsea, Madrid or Bayern it would be impossible to transfer him.Pogba is the only one I can think off that seems to not be for sale at any price.
We're preparing an offer they can't refuse.Well done to you all....
All this talk of Roma, Italians selling at the right price etc etc and none of you have made a crap Godfather reference
Moyes will wake up with Fellaini's severed head under his bed sheets now...
