It was reported in the autumn last year from sources close to Old Trafford that we outbid Madrid for Bale but he has made his mind up by that point.

A case of too little, too late maybe, but we it's been wel documented that we bid strongly for him late in the window/before he left Spurs.

Strongly bidding for a player who has no intention of joining you isn't 'coming close' to signing a player. If anything, it was just another case of bidding for a player that we had no chance of getting, along with Fabregas.

So it seems that Kroos, Fabregas, Vidal, Rakitic, Khedira, William Carvalho, Kroos were all available and we end up only with Herrera. Great job guys.

It is what it is. But I hope that RvP, Rooney, Januzaj and Mata somehow can bail us out.

Fair enough, genuinely wasn't sure as I would say all three players we've bought (if we get Rojo) will walk into our team.

I am all in for players such as these. Problem is that we might be too deep in the gravel to make due without a world beater or 2.

So Herrera is shite now according to knob ends on here...feck off

Anyone who thinks he's shite is an idiot.

That doesn't mean he's a better player than the likes of Fabregas, Kroos, Rakitic or Vidal either though.

Herrera's our most influential player. he's got the best close control I've seen from any midfielder in the league and he does the dirty work well, too. One midfield signing alone, I don't care who it was, was never going to answer all our problems there. We need another. I've got nothing against Fletcher but we need the quality of a Vidal to match Herrera's. Failing that, we're going to have to sign a defensive midfielder accustomed to the style we're currently playing. As much as some people will disagree, that player would have to be Daley Blind.

That is what I mean about the club doing things half cocked. Herrera is a smashing little player but needs good quality next to him. Shaw will be great but we needed an experienced CB to give the defence more direction. We sign Rojo, who is a good player, but not exactly raising the experience stakes. The transfers haven't entirely been well thought through, a bit, but not entirely.
