Balague does have a reputation for spouting crap but then so do most media outlets and journalist's. They all get stuff wrong from time to time, and I hope this time Balague is wrong. His reputation is a bit unfair I think.
Well, maybe he gets more wrong than he does right but don't they all? That Palmieri guy on twitter is the worst.
Balague cannot stand the idea of any player leaving Spain - EVER. On the radio show he used to be on every name a caller suggested was either probably going to Madrid or Barcelona or possibly Valencia or another Spanish side. He doesn't think the market exists other than for players to come to Spain.

With Evra pretty much a dead cert to go and only Buttner as back up, I bloody well hope so.
But with those two there at present and Fabio (if he decides to stay on the pitch longer than 3 minutes) if needed, we're fairly covered there until the summer.
It just makes much more sense to spend our time, money and resources on bringing in the midfielder(s) that we have so desperately needed for three years.
Looking at how knackered Evra has been this season and how much of our defensive weakness stems from that, I'd say it's very justified to be looking for options in left back first. Yes we're awful in midfield but the way Evra is struggling through games, it is imo a far more concerning issue than the midfield.
Evra has apparently "an ongoing knee problem" so signing LB even for 6 months makes perfect sense.
