But why would he do it in English?

A Portuguese man playing at his dream club in Spain.

Doesn't make sense.

Because of his world presence and English being the most widely spoken language?

Miguel Delaney:

All of Ronaldo, Thiago, Strootman, Cesc, Thiago, Lewandowski and Garay are genuinely "in play". As to whether they'll sign?

On the Ronaldo tweet:

Whatever way you look at it, that's an odd tweet for any player to send (Ronaldo's) in a pretty delicate ongoing situation.
other clubs have been in touch, and Ronaldo's people have spoken to at least three - including United

He doesn't narrow things down much, does he?

Reading that Miguel guy's tweets he seems to think there's loads going on with Ronaldo behind the scenes, and we're right amongst it.

It'd surely be the most shocking transfer we'd pulled off ever if it happened though.
Would be sensational.

Smart money has to be on staying at Madrid though.
And could anyone see a 28year old Ronaldo playing in France?!

I think it's quite obvious we are back in for Ronaldo. It's not been one or two throwaway articles, it's been a lot of people saying similar things. I think both parties probably want the movie, Real Madrid will probably play hard ball right till the end of the summer, or when it becomes clear they won't get him on another contract.

He'll probably will stay at Madrid mind.

If it's that good then I want it too.

It'd certainly appeal to Ronnie's ego!
Ridiculously under valued at Madrid by their fans and people, here he'd be utterly lapped up, and would make Rooney a mere after thought.

There is no way this is happening, is there?

On Ronaldo re-joining United? Absolutely zero chance - there's more chance of us signing Terry to partner Rio in defence, and Suarez to play ahead of Evra on the left.

Other than that, it's on.

Not saying it's likely at all, but that is drivel. If he decides to leave we definitely have a chance. 1-5% chance as it stands. If he says he wants to leave I'd say 40-50%.

Oh god, it's happened. Rationalising my muppetry... The first step.

I'd love to be completely wrong on that, but even "absolutely zero chance" seems generous to me. I admire that your muppetry is more optimistic than mine I guess (if only by that 1-5%), let's hope that optimism is rewarded

I'm pretty sure we're gonna sign Ronaldo, you guys! If that's not good enough, then you can just get out of this thread right away.

Don't understand the people saying there is sod all chance of this happening. I think there is every chance we can afford him, he's made clear numerous times how much he loves United, even saying he misses the club, he's clearly unsettled in Madrid, his contract has only two years remaining and renewal negotiations seem at an impasse. The five biggest clubs in the world are Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United, Bayern Munich and AC Milan. Milan are suffering due to the relative financial decline of Serie A. Ronaldo at his peak is only ever going to play for one of the first four in my opinion. Barca isn't an option and don't think he's on Bayern's radar. So he either stays at Madrid or moves back to United. PSG and Monaco are the pie in the sky options as far as I am concerned, not United. I'd say the odds are close to 50/50 at this point. Based on nothing other than my opinion. That's proper muppeting.

If he is really not going to sign another contract with Madrid due to money issues, what makes people think our ability to pay him will be anything close to that?

smart money is definitely on him playing Madrid like bitches to get an even sillier pay deal.

However, if he definitely wants out, we'd have as good a chance as anyone.

If we couldn't go a bit extra for the best player the Premier league has seen, i'd be amazed.

Don't think it is entirely due to money issues but a certain scouse cf leaving would free up a huge chunk of his wages. Especially with nani and ando leaving as well. That's another £155k ish (?) with a strootman and thiago not eating into all of that.

Doesn't work that way. Your entire wage structure would have to be re-worked. You can have your highest earner earning 3x-4x of the average.

No white text? I don't understand....
Isco will never be as good as Ronaldo IMO. Doesn't have the physical gifts.

I agree. But he's 20, not 28, and can be bought for half the price. We'd likely have to grossly overpay for Ronnie, and how many great years does he have left? Imo, Isco will at least reach Iniesta class, and we could get 12/14 years from him.

That's a bold claim to say Isco will be as good as Iniesta. I'm not going to argue with you because it's a tough one to refute; but it's the first time I have heard such a comparison. Iniesta is one of the best midfielders I have ever seen. I don't care about grossly overpaying for Ronnie. I reckon he'll be close to unstoppable for another 2-3 years at least. Takes such good care of himself. Your logic about value is sound though. That said, I'd love us to win another couple of European Cups in the short term and Ronaldo is a player that can get us there IMO.

There is a lot of similarity in their games and if there was one player I would compare him to with respect to his dribbling style, and positions he plays then Iniesta would be that player. Not sure if he will get to that level but Isco will be world class, no doubt. Why not just sign all three of him, Ronaldo, and Thiago? That way we'd all be delighted

Ronaldo playing Madrid.

Pay me what I want, sell, or I let the contract to be drawn down and get about 30 Million signing on fee in 18 Months. If United were in a similar situation I would hope they'd sell, and move on.

For a number of reasons, I think Perez would much rather use the prospective Ronaldo-money to capture 'his' signing Gareth Bale.
