I'll tell you what, I'm actually looking forward to seeing this thread being bumped during the Summer. I'm feeling my transfer-muppetness tingling inside of me.

I feel as if it's going to be a juicy-window.

I'm thinking the opposite. Not just because it's what we've become accustomed to, but because of the van Persie signing. Unless we sell a couple of players of course, Anderson or Nani etc.

Oh it is, Ronaldo will be the big one.

Jeeeeeez! I'm taking the slash after the word twitter to mean I can post twitter stuff in here. I can't believe I'm actually having this conversation though because I couldn't actually care less!

You should care. This is a very serious matter.

Are you some kind of anarchist? Or worse. Hitler started like this. He kept talking about Jews in discussions about boiled eggs. :nono:

@Portu_Goal: Headline in ABola: "Nemanja Vidic to convince Nemanja Matic" Paper says Man Utd CB enlisted by Ferguson to help land compatriot at Benfica.

@Portu_Goal: Good chance the Garay one will happen IMO. Recently signed with super agent Jorge Mendes. RT @bihzen Garay and Gaitan? MUFC interested?

He was at Chelsea, but they sold him. I've watched him a couple of times for Benfica, and he's impressed me.

According to same source Matic is the player of year in Portual, so looks good..

Nice. Next we should get Giggs to convince Bale and Van Persie and all our English players to convince Wilshere.

@indykaila: Yaya Toure has signed a new deal at Manchester City worth nearly £45m over four years #MCFC

How about that, the Matic rumours actually reached SSN....

TL;DR - It's a lot of horse shit.
On Monday Allan Jiang did an article for Bleacher Report titled '10 Biggest Summer Transfer Rumours so Far', it was one of those where you have to click through a list and each rumour has its own explanation. Rumour number three was Kevin Strootman to Manchester United, that's been going on for over a year and most United fans will be familiar with the reports.

Allan said that Manchester United should instead turn their attention to Nemanja Matic of Benfica. This is the entirety of what he wrote on the subject:

That's all Bleacher Report have done on Matic to Manchester United. There are no further articles claiming the club are about to sign him and it's not what Bleacher Report do anyway, being more concerned with the opinion side of football.

On Tuesday A Bola in Portugal ran an article titled 'Matic on Manchester United's list' and they said that the Premier League club were tracking the Benfica midfielder. These are their words:

'According to the news website bleacherreport.com, the Benfica midfielder will be an option if Alex Ferguson decides to strengthen the squad's midfield sector with a view to next season. Listed previously with the English club is also Dutchman Kevin Strootman, PSV, but Matic allegedly appears in the first position.'

So they've taken an article which was discussing transfer rumours, changed it to suit them and put Matic forward as a main target of Manchester United - when that was never suggested in the first place. Once it was on A Bola we knew it would get to England and did an article on that yesterday, but even cynical old us have been surprised at how this 'story' has been twisted.

English newspaper The Daily Express have this afternoon published an article titled 'Manchester United tempted to activate Nemanja Matic's release clause' and they go on to say:

'According to Portuguese paper A Bola, Matic has emerged as United's top transfer target.

However, the Serbian carries a steep transfer fee and has a release clause worth £38m.'

And that is how so many transfer rumours are born. Total and utter horse-meat. You'll no doubt see the Matic rumour elsewhere, it's already made its way to Italy and is all over social networks. Poor Allan Jiang at Bleacher Report probably had no idea what he was starting when he said Manchester United should consider Matic instead of Strootman.

One sentence in a blog is turned into a newspaper story saying Manchester United are tempted to make a £38m bid, in two days.

Great example of how football journalism works. Yet who amongst us doesn't feel the tiniest spark of hope when some tabloid hack links us for the umpteenth time with Ronaldo?

I miss the good ol' days when tweeting meant stabbing a whore.

Fergie basically let the cat out of the bag with that in his recent interview.

So the MEN say that Manchester town hall will be lit up red and blue based on the proportion of a certain hashtag that is tweeted before the eve of the derby!

As amusing as that is, it has nothing to do with transfers.

@indykaila: I have news coming up. Unexpected news regarding the Manchester United club. #MUFC

I wonder what the unexpected news is?

This type of things are usually letdowns anyway. Is this IndyKaila fella trustable anyway ?
