Dutch national team coaches tend to favour players from abroad and the top clubs in Holland. I know nothing about this player but at his age Evra had just started playing as a full back for Monaco so Buttner might be another late bloomer.
You don't really need to be a defender in order to do what Evra does 
As long as this lad knows how to defend is what matters. I hope he does. Good back up anyway. I thought it was unlikely he would get Leighton Baines.
He has one year left on his contract and has been linked to different clubs for £1.5 million so at least he seems to be cheap if he comes.

hope he's gonna make it here, but I fully expect us to be beaten fairly often this season out wide.
Evra's still one of the best fullbacks, but he's become a defensive liability to an extent where you're no longer fully confident in our defensive soundness, still he's the best we've got.
Rafael (& Fabio) should probably make it, and although they show promise they're both liabilities at the back, hopefuly they'll iron out their weaknesses by playing more minutes, but for now they're still raw.
Jones & Smalling have both done good jobs out wide, but I don't see either ending up playing there in the long run, and shouldn't be first choice RB.
That leaves us now with Blackett & Brady who are both too young to be counted on, and the new signing who will no doubt need to play some minutes before settling into our defense, the only positive here is we've got Vidič back which should give us a major boost.
