Atta boy Rio, tapping up by twitter is the way forward.

Expensive for a backup (if true)

@FootyExpert: word around twitter is that Baines is a done deal, fee believed to be around 14-15m and will be announced after the euros #MUFC

By that logic, now would be a good time to restart the Gaitan rumors.
It'll seem credible.

Yes, but as I said, our most recent signings are usually when the player and the players agent have been 'silent' in the media. The Bains transfer saga reflects that kind transfer.

Then again, I think I'm wishfully thinking that we could get a LB to rival Evra.

Hope he's not a replacement for Evra if he's coming.

Maybe he would be a replacement for Nani, possibly even Rooney and Welbeck. After all, he's known for playing in several hundred positions, but never as a LB.

He's a left back.

I mean if he joins us, will Evra be sold or will we rotate both? Might depend on if Fabio goes out on loan.

No mate, he obviously isn't. He's a deep lying Striker who can play on the wings or through the middle...

 Gotta say this twitter thread is dying a slow death. After the Hazard rumours nothing going on! I think all the muppets commit suicide or something,

Modric: offers from PSG and Manchester United. Madrid will try to get him (interest in Silva a decoy). Next week, meeting Spurs-Modric ppl

The interest from Manchester United for Jordi Alba is real. He's too far down the line with Barcelona but still no agreement with Valencia

For days the situation has been this. Barcelona stole 2 of Valencia's young players under 12 years old that will go and play in their academy next season. Valencia's response came from Manuel Llorente

"They have broken the code of ethics that exists between clubs. I cannot understand how an entity with such a huge budget can be stealing children who are 12 years old from other clubs"

"This is something you are going to pay for dearly"

Since, a letter was sent to Barcelona informing them that their final price for Alba is 15 million euros and Valencia will not budge on it.

A question to you, lads.

Didn't somebody post a table (or link to the news) on websites'/newspapers' percentage of successful transfer rumours?

Is there anyone who knows what I mean and knows where it was posted?

What's 15 million euro's? Around 10-12 million? Seems a very good price for him really, Barca really do have a knack sometimes of underpaying for players.

Anything above 25 % is really good imo.

Problem is - a newspaper can say that United are interested in signing a player - United make a phonecall to check the availability of that player and are turned down. It still is accurate of the paper even if it doesn't work out.

Or - a newspaper could wait by splashing out rumours until the player almost has a pen in hand - ready to sign the contract. Of course that will be accurate.

I am pretty certain that a newspaper with 40% accuracy hardly ever break any new stories - whereas a newspaper below20% probably are printing everything they find.

So we can laugh at the really tabloid ones - but they are probably also more likely to get that one story correct - the problem of course being that it's hard to find that one story between all the other crap

Its because he let his contract run down. He has a year left on it but Valencia are determined not to be pushed around by Barcelona, and stealing 2 of Valencia's under 12s during talks just made them even more angry that Barcelona wont pay the 15 million euros.

Alba wants to go there sure, and being with the Spain camp he's obviously getting Fabregas'd but lets see if a big club comes in with the 15 million euros. Alba might look to join United (if the rumours of our interest are backed up with a bid) rather than have to wait a year and join Barcelona on a free after that. Or Barcelona pony up the 15 million euros, the tight gits. Either way Llorente has no plans to let Barcelona take him on their terms especially after this incident

Indeed; you'd think after the Zlatan deal more clubs would take that as motivation to squeeze them a bit harder, but I guess all players want to play for Barcelona so the selling club might be limited in what they can do (Arsenal maybe being the best example recently).

If the player really wants to go to barca and nowhere else, valencia are not in a very good position. If barca insist on paying less than 15m euro, the only option they have, other than accepting their offer is to let him run down his contract hoping that he changes his mind - which as things are looks unlikely

Having been disgusted by Barcelona's actions and being ready to go to war with them and no longer needing to sell their best players to pay off debts, Valencia will just about be okay with keeping him for 1 more season and letting him go for free

Dont expect him to play too much football though. Not with Mathieu who is just as good a defender to play left back and them signing Guardado for the left wing. And having him on the bench plenty of the time instead of playing every week might not suit Barcelona. Especially as they need a leftback now, not later.

United are keen on Valencia’s 23-year-old left-back Jordi Alba & are hoping to hijack Barcelona’s bid. [setanta]

Baines or Alba? tough choice imo.

Baines is prem settled, decent crosser / set piece taker.

Alba is a spanish team national, better attacker but perhaps a little wobbly in defence?.
