Turns out we're a bit crap, anyone?

Bit mad to even bother with this thread, due to the massive unlikeliness of us doing our side of the bargain.

We're only on a 2 league game winning run after all. That'd have to become a 7 or 8.

Those two wins have given us a chance of top 4 again, nothing more.

Lose to West Brom, combined with City/Arsenal wins, and it's back off again

I think we'll win 19 games maximum, 50% win rate won't be enough for the title. Might sneak 4th, but I reckon the four teams above us will all win 20+ games, so it'd be very close if we manage to nick it. I feel like Leicester are the only team we can afford to lose to in this 10-game run-in, but that'll be partly down to me hoping they win the title.

Sums this season up quite well ;)

If you win the title, you'll be the Steven Bradbury of the Premier League.

When you see City's record against the top clubs this season it gives us a real opportunity.

I think we'll get top 4 but even then I'm always going to look back on this season with regret, so many games we didn't turn up at all. It was a great chance for LVG to be remembered as the man who made us winners again post-Sir Alex.

Brilliant username.

Lets see if we can beat West Brom first which is highly unlikely on recent away form. We're below West Ham as it stands, are they talking about a title?

If City are spoeken about as title challengers, so are we.

Yes they've got a game in hand after tomorrow but they have to win it. This is on.

Can't quite see us going on a consistent run but who knows. Would love it if it happened.

exactly. This is what I am saying. Just look at the teams above us. None of them are consistent. It takes a run of matches. And we are playing all of them except Arsenal who we just beat.
I'm afraid the reason they aren't consistent is because this years PL is very dense in quality, from top to bottem. I think it's because of the television money, clubs like Stoke and Leicester can do great things with it in the international market, but if a top club aims a little bit higher for really good players they are in PSG/Bayern/Real territory, and there are hardly any players in that class for sale, and if they are they are extremely expensive. That means that United has the same problem with consistency as the other contenders: tight games with little difference in quality.

So the league will be decided by spirit, form and buzz. The club that will have the most of that to overcome the inconsistency will win it, and therefore United does have a chance, but we need a lot more of it than Leicester because we are far behind. But 3rd is well within reach, and I think that's much better than 4th because CL qualifiers mess up next season's start.

fair points. I would be happy with a 3rd finish. van Gaal gutted us this season and should have been gone after Christmas. Still we can finish decent and do have a great chance in the cups.

Cant see it...we are due another slump in form...its just like that with us and Van Haal.

Fully on board with the Leicester bandwagon though...what a story that would be,and i'd rather non of the three clubs behind them win it.

Definitely have to back them over the others. And wow, an 8 point lead over Arsenal!
Still think City have the power to put big run in though, whereas Tottenham have some tough games and will lose when you think they've cracked it.

Can we sneak in top 4? Hard but possible.

City are the masters of undeserved title wins.

We were 8 points ahead with just 5 games to go and threw it away in 2012 (Still hurts).

Liverpool threw it away in 2014(Still doesnt hurt)

I'd hope Leicester can summon last year's spirit. At this point last season, they looked doomed for relegation, but they went on an amazing run. They have to believe they can again.

As for top 4, I thought it was gone a few weeks ago, so this is a pleasant suprise. I still think both Arsenal and City will make it in, but...and this sounds crazy now , its Spurs for me who can throw it away. I've seen some magnificent bottle jobs by them over the years.

This time last season Leicester were actually bottom! Unbelievable, and were about 7 points off safety with 9 games left!

This time last week, I wasn't feeling too confident about driving up to the Arsenal game!
Funny old thing, and anything can happen to some extent. I've spent time tonight arguing with super optimists that madly think we can still win the league, but we can definitely hit top 4, but we'll have to play pretty well. Points off Arsenal/City not the highest, but that can easily change against us very quickly if we're not bang on it.

Seriously close this thread, non united fans gonna be looking in and laughing at us, let it go guys.

Leicester have been the 'most consistent' of the teams above us. The title is going to be a stretch, but we have very good chance to come 2nd to 4th.

We need to take a match at a time. And we are still in 2 cups. Lots to play for.

If I'm going to be completely honest, I think the points difference at this stage of the season coupled with the form of those above us makes this particular task insurmountable. It would would take an awful lot of results going our way in addition to us going on a season ending winning streak for a title challenge to even become a possibility. I'd love to think that a series of wins would set us up for a title challenge, I really do but it would take a strange turn of events for that to happen. But even so, let's at least give it a good go. A winning streak would boost morale and might even take us deeper into the top four. It's a tall order but there's no reason why we can't keep up a bit of a run anyway. It'd boost morale at the very least and possibly put us in a more favourable position.
