Turning on Rangnick

Taking the covid situation into consideration that resulted in training being halted, how much time did he really have with the players?
Taking that in consideration but we not even seeing the slightest bit of improvements or any direction. We also not seeing the players putting all in the games. The basics and fundamentals are lacking.

Anyone turning on him now is a bit silly to be honest.
The football he is playing with this team is silly. It didn't work 3 1/2 years ago in the Bundesliga, why would it now in the PL.

They also had 2 in midfield - Neves and Moutinho. Difference is - they worked much harder as a team, we didn't.
In Rangnick's own words, he said Wolves had more players in midfield than us. I still ask the same question. If we're being overrun in midfield, why do we keep doing the same thing over and over again? Fred and VDB were sat on the bench.

Compared to Ole's intetim period its like chalk and cheese. Ole at least had us believing for 17 odd games win streak. With lesser players might I add.

Still give Ralf end of the season but he cannot stay on.

Ole built this squad, so either he didn't know what he was doing in the transfer market or he didn't know how to coach them, or both.

I cannot be convinced that the team that finished top 4 last two seasons and has added the likes of Bruno, Cavani, VDB, Varane, Sancho, Ronaldo over the last couple of years should be putting in this level of performance. Not only do we not look top 4 quality, we look Sunday League level. Our players can't be this bad to be getting routinely outplayed by the likes of Watford, Norwich, Newcastle and Wolves.
The players have gotten lazy. They’re a bunch of overpaid turd buckets.

Not saying there's no merit to it but it's silly to turn on him given he's only an interim manager. The fact we've even got one is a clear sign that we're in a bit of a mess.

The club does well with PR but sometimes you have to look up at the sky and say that's a cirrus cloud, not a delightful looking abstract painting.

The talent is in the team, and I do not need to give any explanation. The same talent that got us second last season, and when every player is playing horribly then that is a bigger issue than individual ability.
Except there isn’t talent in the team part from a few bright sparks.
There is not enough intelligence or players in their prime to push for anything

last season was a freak season, put last seasons performance into this season and we’d be the
Disagree all you want, does not change facts. Those same brilliant City players turn average when playing for their NTs when they are playing in the same team. That just shows the difference good coaching makes.
Still waiting for the players, varane and de gea (on his current form)

what coach would do anything with Fred Mctom matic as midfielders?
It’s the heart beat of the team and we’ve probably got the most average centre mid in the league.
We haven’t got any wingers apart from sancho, we have a failed striker and a young prospect who is really a striker.

our two strikers are 36/37

There's no point turning on him but I've not been impressed at all. Not convinced on the formation, the pressing has been non-existent, some of the tactical changes have been bizarre too. Don't think we've seen one good performance under him.

That said, he won't be getting the job full time, so I'm not overly concerned.

I'm yet to be convinced by him, but turning on an (interim) manager after like a month during Covid and Dec period is harsh.

I'm honestly not sure how he got our players pressing so well in a day (Palace) and then we seemingly are regressing since. And his formation is not doing us any favors. Really hope he experiments with a different formation soon.

Having said that, this is on the players more than anyone. No one should accept these poor performances. Half of them are struggling to make a 10 yard pass. Then you have players like Rashford who think and act like retired veterans who have won everything. Complete shambles.

I wanted us to get Conte in, he would get us results and make us contenders next season for sure. But alas, that ship has sailed. And tbh, I'm not sure how this Ten Haag guy can make this squad play like City. Rashford, McT, Fred, Matic, AWB, Maguire - none of these players have the basic skills needed to play possession based football. That's basically half the starting 11. Good luck with that.

It is just so disappointing given how well he had seemingly identified our issues and yet has done nothing to address them. I just looked up Klopp's first game v/s Spurs .. Liverpool broke their distance record and out ran Poch's Spurs. Immediate impact!

The liverpool team that day was -
Mignolet
Clyne Skrtel Sakho Moreno
Leiva Can
Milner Lallana Coutinho
Origi

Yeah, no idea how we close a 4 point gap with a game in hand and 19 games to go.
I'm not saying so mathematically, but the way we play right now does not instill confidence that we can pick up more points than Spurs, Arsenal, etc. Let alone the top 3.

I wish I can be more optimistic.

It's better off the ball than it was, but it's dreadful on the ball. No plan, just pump it long and bypass the midfield. Surprised with how direct he's played.

This is also my observation. Parallels could actually be drawn between us now and Liverpool when Klopp first took over -- you can press as much as you like but it's pointless if you're clueless on the ball. I now just hope Rangnick has something up his sleeve to rectify this problem pronto.

I’m turning on him because of his insistence on playing Ronaldo. I thought he was a hard man the way he addressed the media on our players wanting to leave but he is a coward for not dropping a 36 year old player. We need energy in this side and Ro also is the opposite of that. The season is a bust, I’m just focusing on Greenwoods development which is currently being destroyed by you guessed it Ronaldo.

tottenham looked worse than us before Conte took over. Now they look a lot better.

So where is our new manager bounce?

Managers aren't magicians. Rangnick ain't gonna make AWB cross better nor McT carry the ball without heavy touches. He ain't making Ronaldo, Matic nor Cavani any younger. Rangnick hasn't been perfect with this crazy 4222 but I never said he is blameless anyway so wtf are you on about ?
This squad is shit for its aspirations of dominance, you need to get your eyes checked if you don't see that.

He can't make Ronaldo and Cavani younger but that doesn't mean he has to double down and play both. Or ask Cavani at his age to become a hardworking No.10.

There are some strange decisions being made. Hopefully just a case of him getting to know the players.

The talent is in the team, and I do not need to give any explanation. The same talent that got us second last season, and when every player is playing horribly then that is a bigger issue than individual ability.
Last season (Covid season) was an complete anomaly. Inept performances were masked by either big moments or almost unbelievable occurrences of 'good' luck which rescued results and consequently kept Solskjaer in his job.

In terms of this set of players:

Maguire, AWB, Telles, McTominay, Fred and Rashford all range from painfully average to outright poor.

Bruno hasn't played well in an age.

Sancho looks like a bust.

Pogba is on his way out and quite frankly has never been much good anyway.

Ronaldo is showing his age and that's probably the best thing you can say about him right now.

Yes. So I ask again where is the talent you speak of?

I'm not saying so mathematically, but the way we play right now does not instill confidence that we can pick up more points than Spurs, Arsenal, etc. Let alone the top 3.

I wish I can be more optimistic.
Surely you agree the other teams in the mix are playing somewhat noticeably better than us?
19 games is a long way to go. I'm not saying we will or won't, but I replied to a comment saying it's impossible. Which it clearly isn't, and not just mathematically so.

The football he is playing with this team is silly. It didn't work 3 1/2 years ago in the Bundesliga, why would it now in the PL.
You can perhaps educate me, where and when did he underperform with a club in Bundasliga compared to when he over performed? I agree with you on the system by the way. Think he will change that soon.

If Sancho passed to Ronaldo,Cavani to Greenwood or Bruno didn't miss such a great chance we probably would have won. Yet it would have papered over the cracks just like many of the Ole wins the last few years.

We haven't improved at all since RR came in.

He feels like he is forced to because there is a serious lack of options for him. VDB is a ghost, Pogba hasn't featured, Rashford is trash

He talks the best game you’ve ever heard and nothing remotely like it have we seen on the pitch.

Early days but he’s had ZERO impact if we’re honest. The players don’t want to play for him.

This is true.

Honestly I doubt he has enough power or standing at the club to manage the egos in the dressing room. The players are mentally weak and self centered, and I don't think any manager in his position could do much better.

It’s not that we’re turning on him. For me, it’s the fact nothing has changed. At all. These players aren’t buying into him. He’s not been ruthless at all as of yet. What ole was doing didn’t work.. so change it. We won’t win anything playing this way.

Player power is absolute it seems. What a sad state of affairs.

He is a second rate coach. Look at his CV.

2nd rate. Ok.

According to the CAF, Tuchel & Klopp are braindead idiots for ever listening to Ralf & are technically inept themselves.

Ahwell, let’s just throw the baby out with the bath water while we’re at it.

Except there isn’t talent in the team part from a few bright sparks.

There is absolutely talent in the team, and The players can be coached to be better. That is the point of a manager.

last season was a freak season, put last seasons performance into this season and we’d be the

Still waiting for the players, varane and de gea (on his current form)

No, last season was not a freak season. The season before we finished 3rd so that is nonsense.

Varane, DDG, Shaw, Ronaldo, Sancho, Rashford, Greenwood, Bruno, Lindelof, Maguire probably Fred and VDB could also play.

what coach would do anything with Fred Mctom matic as midfielders?
It’s the heart beat of the team and we’ve probably got the most average centre mid in the league.

City were trying to get Fred when we bought him, Matic is past it, but again the manager is the one picking him. If the midfield is lacking then maybe don't play with a two man midfield.

We haven’t got any wingers apart from sancho, we have a failed striker and a young prospect who is really a striker.

our two strikers are 36/37

Rashford is a winger, and Greenwood can play there as well. City have played with midfielders as wingers and they keep rotating players around and make it work.

City don't even play with strikers, and Ronaldo was close to joining City before we got him. You think he would be struggling at City, he would certainly get more chances to score the way City play.

Those same players who play brilliantly then go on to struggle for their NT, which shows the difference in coaching for their NT and club teams. We are playing like a shit NT right now, where everyone is a bit clueless and lost, and that is not down to players but the coaching.

Still deserves time obviously but nothing about his past and recent jobs/successes suggests he should be anywhere near a club like ours.

He's never been anywhere near a club like ours probably for a reason.

I personally think the appointment was a mistake, or at least the terms were. Even if you stick somebody else in the role now, he will still have some level of influence as a consultant if he’s to continue on. That may be a good thing if he gets the team back on track within 6 months, which is probably highly unlikely, but it could spell disaster if it doesn’t work after half a year and he’s still there dripfeeding his philosophy, or having influence over another manager.

Anyone claiming the squad is no good and we just need new players is kidding themselves
