Trump/Russia/SDNY investigation

So what if Mueller found something really bad against Trump in the end? Would he get impeached? By who? Because this house and senate probably won't do it as it is now.

So I am glad that Mueller's investigation is going along nicely and quick but would it be better to finish up after 2018 election rather than before as it would have little to almost no effect on this administration?

He could be impeached, indicted, or voted out of office.

The timeline for the investigation is sort of secondary to the need to do it properly.

No not at all. The Republicans will only be able to ignore so much. Just look at how public pressure is affecting the gun control arguments. Trump approval rating drops below 35% or even under 30% and they will have to act then too.

Depending on what Mueller has on him and everyone else, but it can't be ignored there would litrrally be riots.

Personally I would rather keep the orange buffoon for three more years than have Pence in the WH. Perfect situation would be a crushing defeat in the 2018 elections for the GOP and two years of utter frustration for Trump.

Having said that seeing him come crashing down as a result of the Muller investigation would be sweet.

I hope both of you guys are right if he did some real shit of course.

So far his party follows him to hell. His base is too solid for most moderate Republicans to turn on him for the fear of losing their own base/positions.

At least I hope the congress would flip to mostly blue by then and it makes him a bit of lame duck sitting president and prevents him from acting on some crazy shit policies.

Yeap. Trump can be both annoying and funny. Mullah Mike would be scary.

Hmm Russian sex worker with info on Trump.

Please be pee pee tape related

Looks like he’s refusing to flip

I think Manafort's strategy is to either:

a - wait for Trump to fire Mueller and be let off that way (he would still have to face state level charges)
b - wait for a Trump pardon (low percentage as he would still face charges at the state level)
c - win his actual court case (also low percentage as federal prosecutors have about a 90-95% conviction rate)

If a and b don't happen and he winds up getting convicted, then he will likely still be offered to flip for a lesser sentence.

The short version of all of this is that Manafort will not be able to avoid a lengthy jail sentence without flipping against Trump.

I think his strategy will be to tie the investigation up in technicalities and hope it’s prelonged til he’s dead.

The fact that the judge set the trial for late September also tells us that the Mueller case will go on until at least the end of this year and probably deep into 2019.

So what happens if Mueller gets fired before that?

Assuming Trump doesn't get impeached as a result, the Congress could work to reestablish the independent council statute which expired in 1999 and then re-appoint Mueller in a role where Trump can't touch him.In either case, the FBI would have to proceed with the Manafort prosecution since its part of their fundamental mandate to prosecute violations of federal law.

The FBI would also have to follow through on any criminal activity found during the Mueller investigation. It would go from one closed investigation with run by a handful of people to multiple investigations with multiple teams.

Wouldn’t it look too obvious if that happened? Nothing like a dead person of high noteriety to confirm even more suspicions.

I don't think hiding it would be their main concern. It's not like they will get extradited anyway. They probably just want to keep the details of their business secret.

I think they'd mainly be concerned with keeping someone quiet. Hide as many details as possible.

I don't care if she's a sex expert she'd have to shave that beard first.

Apparently, the Russian who told George Papadopoulos about the Hillary dirt Russia possessed has disappeared (according to his fiance).

I doubt he's been disposed of, he will have been an agent anyway so they probably just gave him a new alias.

Cuomo is such a good news interviewer, he’s sharp as a razor, it doesn’t matter who he’s interviewing he sets the tone perfectly, has the authority to lead the discussion and is one of few that doesn’t allow th subject to deflect. He’ll press his point until he’s either got an answer or highlighted their avoidance to the point of ridicule.

In terms of setting the tone in this interview, it was borderline humouring Page.
Cuomo is fantastic, you can tell he's a lawyer.

What's the TV news equivalent of a Pulitzer?

Not sure what the boom is this time though?

I don’t think it’s always obvious either. He’s obviously got contacts, I guess sometimes the story doesn’t drop in a timeframe that makes it hard to connect the dots.
