Trump/Russia/SDNY investigation

Campaign for Accountability are about to be served with all kinds of subpoena now!

Nunes is going down one way or the other. Either he has broken the law by getting caught leaking classified information or he's going to get voted out of office by his district for spending all his time cooking up obstructionist plots to derail the Mueller investigation.

Not sure if it’s been mentioned on here yet but Grassley is claiming that Kushner has been “spooked” by Feinstein releasing the Fusion GPS report and is no longer expected to be interviewed as part of the senate investigation

Gets me every time.

 I’ve said it a few times in the real world and got a weird look and had to stop myself from explaining it when I realised there’s no good way to explain it to a non-caftard.

Nunes' decisions to put himself in such liability time and again makes little sense to me. He either owes someone big or a spineless underling trying to curry favours or simply a moron.

I should add, the main thing to take from this is that this started in 2014 and is the core reason for the FBI’s Russia investigation. Not the “dodgy, unverified” Fusion GPS Dossier.

It’s actually incredibly what was happening though, Cozy Bear were attacking the US Government and in real time the Dutch intelligence service were monitoring them on hijacked webcams and cctv** and relaying their tactics back to the NSA security teams who were shutting down and reinforcing their networks in lightnight response or anticipation. Cozy Bear must have been in awe of their counter attacking skills.

Will this news have any real-world effect (beyond public perception of Trump's aborted action & the implication of guilt)?

It makes Trump look guilty and will probably do a bit to galvanize Republicans in congress to protect Mueller by way of a law that makes it next to impossible for Trump to fire him.

Is anyone surprised by this? Nope, thought not.

Think the reason we are hearing about this is because McGahn told Mueller's team about it during their interview.

Haberman and Schmidt claim to have four sources, so the info is probably pretty solid. Not sure whether it came from Mueller's side as they have apparently been pretty good about no leaks (although one never knows).

Doubt it, though hopefully gives Mueller a bit of fun if the Trump interview ever happens. Trump can thank his White House counsel that it didn't turn into another saturday night massacre-esque shitstorm.

This story probably helps explain why they've been ultra aggressive in recent days with stuff like "releasethememo" and the "secret society" being talked about.

Yep, definitely one of the reasons. Its particularly gratifying that this dropped on a day when the releasethememo stuff is finally getting debunked and Trump just left the country.

Trump's friend Chris Ruddy suggesting Trump may want to sack Mueller....around the same time as the Times reported he actually tried to do it.

We all remember when Richard Nixon fired special prosecutor Archibald Cox, right? For the same reason Trump wanted to fire Mueller: to, basically, stop an investigation from getting too close.

But do we remember who actually did the firing?

First, Nixon tried to get his Attorney General Elliot Richardson to do it. Richardson refused, and resigned in protest. Undeterred by this act of civic conscience, Nixon ordered his Deputy Attorney General Bill Ruckelshaus to do it. Ruckelshaus refused, and resigned in protest. Still undeterred, Nixon reached even further into his Justice Department, and there he found his willing worm: solicitor general Robert Bork. (Bork would go on to greater fame as Ronald Reagan's failed nominee to the Supreme Court.) The whole operation took less than a day.

So now we have Trump trying to fire Mueller. And what happens? His White House counsel threatens to resign, and Trump backs down immediately.

You can call Trump an authoritarian, a fascist, a tyrant, or an aardvark. But understand this: compared to Nixon, the guy's a piker.

And don't forget: this is a man who made himself famous all across America by telling people, "You're fired."
