It’s no surprise Trump’s lawyers want to limit the scope of the questioning. They have no idea what Mueller and his team already know and have solid evidence of. Some of the Trump Admin have already been left looking like mugs as they were balls deep in questioning before they realised Mueller had all the emails they’d held back.
If Mueller can get Trump talking, he’d probably have him on 50 separate charges and 150 counts of lying under oath within the first hour.
Yes, the only potential banana skin for Mueller is if Trump publicly proclaims he's going to testify under oath (pending his lawyer's input), then turns around and instructs his lawyers to negotiate very narrow parameters for the interview, then shows up for the interview and completely filibusters by not contributing much at all. Mueller will need to pre-emptively find a way around this.

Not sure if he can -- it will be on income tax evasion -- he may cut a deal with the Federal but I am guessing that the State of New York will not.

I think its the case of resources and choices. The State of NY may not have enough $$ to go after him with his international/off-shore web. The Feds may not have a reason until now and with so much resources spent on terrorism/counter-terrorism, there wasn't enough an impetus.

True, although its possible that each component of the investigation will be wrapped up separately. If Mueller interviews Trump in the coming weeks, he will have to ask all of his questions for every part of his investigation since he isn't likely to get more than one interview with Trump.
It is interesting that no leaks have come out about Mueller wanting to speak to Trump about money laundering, which is where a lot of people have predicted Trump will be found culpable.

The sentiment seems to be that interviewing Trump suggests we are closer to the finish that previously thought. Who knows that Mueller is cooking up.

True enough but they've avoided harm for so long and barely a blow has landed that I think putting any faith at all in Mueller is taking a leap even if I have the utmost of respect for him and his integrity and ability to sort it.

With Trump saying on the audio that he'd absolutely do the Mueller interview under oath I wish one of the reporters would've had the balls to say 'are you going to lie under oath like you've done in the past?' or something along those lines.

You know, giving him the choice. Even though Trump is no Bill Clinton, intellectually, I would imagine Mueller would want to avoid giving him the platform of a video-taped Q&A. My guess is he will be questioned under oath, in private. Trump's team might be convinced that not having the President on camera being questioned is beneficial to them.
