Trump/Russia/SDNY investigation

Key question is whether he was pressured to leave early than his planned March departure. Wray threatened to resign if McCabe was forced out.

I'm guessing things became so awkward with Trump and Sessions that he decided 'feck it, I don't need this' and opted to not stick around the extra month.

Yep, that's what i think. Another reason for him to go now is that this Nunes memo is going to be released very soon and he doesn't want to have to deal with that nonsense.

I'm sure we haven't heard the last of him. Democrats should get him to testify like Comey did.

Looks like the purge has begun. Rosenstein can't be far behind. Hopefully Mueller has what he needs already before they come for him after.

If he gets fired before taking this to completion he'll leak the entire investigation to the press and then it's chaos.

Its obviously an orchestrated strategy to undermine all of the actions leading up to Mueller's findings. I don't see how getting rid of Rosenstein would help Trump in any way, as Rachel Brand would simply pick up Rosenstein's work and Trump would be exposed as attempting yet again to obstruct justice.

Is there a required succession or could Trump or someone acting on his behalf appoint someone to take over Rosenstein's role and ultimately stop/hamper the investigation as they want?

Yeah the deputy (Rachel Brand) would take over. Trump is obviously trying to rearrange the pieces in order to get to Mueller, but in the process is risking making himself look at desperately trying to obstruct the Mueller investigation.

I thought he was waiting for his pension to lock in.

Starting to look like he was forced out. Wray knew McCabe was going to leave in March, so why would he tell him he had no plans to have McCabe on the team?

The only logical conclusion is that Wray gave McCabe an ultimatum. You leave on your own accord or you'll be fired.

I think they know how it will look but are probably at the point where they feel this is the only way forward. If that's the case, they're trying to do it as slowly and carefully as they can. I don't think the timing is any coincidence - focus will be on the SOTU speech tomorrow.

It does look like the White House are trying to trim the resources available to the Special Council though. It's worrying how he has been forced to jump before he could be pushed in order to protect his pension.

Who will be next?

State Run TV making the case why Trump shouldn't testify. They are likely greasing the skids for the base for Trump eventually saying he wont do it.

Is it clear that McCabe is being forced out by the WH? Might he not just be making the decision independently? Might some people just be getting out of the road...?

Are they that partisan that they back a crook in republicans clothing (aka a republican) over their criminal justice system?

Natch. They're Pox & Fiends, after all.

It does feel like Trump's probably a bit fecked either way - Muller's no mug and he won't want all of his work to go to waste. If it begins to look like Trump is actually going to fire him then he'll no doubt have plenty of damaging info to put out that he's kept under wraps to now. That on top of the criticism Trump will get from the sacking itself will be a lot to handle.

I’ve said it a couple of times now but here’s my thoughts again:

Firing Mueller will achieve nothing. All the work he has done will have a huge paper trail and I’d put money on Mueller having set up a chain of events should he not be able to finish it. Sealed indictments we have no idea about right now will be unsealed and judges will have access to a tonne of evidence to bring state levels charges on Trump and his associates.

Once all that is out in the open and completely out of the jurisdiction of the executive branch, the house or senate will have no choice but to rehire him to bring it all to a close. Failure to do that at that stage would be gross negligence.

Happens all the time. Big difference is it is now being done as an orchestrated plot to obstruct justice on behalf of Trump, which makes it doubly insidious.

And there will be zero accountability in the aftermath. This partisan asshattery will carry on till the end of time (which may be in the near future if Twittler starts a nuclear war).
