Trump/Russia/SDNY investigation

It also escalates the situation and gives Russia the opportunity to push forward even more aggressively.

I'm expecting Vlad to make another push in Ukraine at some point. He will use Trump's perceived apathy to push back against him and the fact that Russian Presidential "elections" are just around the corner to drum up a bit of nationalism to help him at home. The land bridge through Mariupol to Crimea would seem a logical next step project.

This is the problem people ignored when they voted outside the two major parties during the election. Gary Johnson was a big pot smoking oaf and Jill Stein is an utter self promoting tool.

If there was any doubt that Jill Stein was a complete self-promoting charlatan that should now have been put to bed.

I disagree, if anything the fact someone being implicated that is very liberal while being outside the Democratic Party being accused of this lends credance to it being a Democratic stitch up job.

The Senate intelligence committee chairman is a Republican who is also quoted as saying they're looking into other campaigns, suggesting that the other is Hillary's, so I'd find this odd.

Can somebody with a comprehensive overview of the situation tell me how this is all being fueled by the Democrats, or at least explain the logic behind the conspiracy?

And yet Russia was allowed to interfere in the US election practically free of consequence and now have a sympathiser in the white house.

Yep...unfortunately this is the case when you have feckless politicians who aren't willing to put a proper boot into Putin's backside. Obama was far too soft in using American power abroad.

Essential reading

I liked the part where the Russians tried to be all deep and historical with the earth from Kushner's grandmother's birthplace, and he just says its a bag of dirt from a misspelled placed. Worst villain ever .

 Yeah I chuckled there as well.

That part tells you everything you need to know about those people.

This should be good....

I think this is a big reason why GOP are keen to shut it down. They know full well that it would lead to a huge embarrassment for them.

Yep. If there's even a whiff of a possibility that Kushner shared analytics with Russian intelligence then this thing will explode in a hurry.

An important point with that is that doing everything to keep Trump in charge is not at all embarrassing for them. End of the day, he isn't some fluke who lucked his way into power. He represents exactly what the GOP stand for. He may not have the polish of Rubio or Cruz but he is doing everything they would have done policy-wise. So barring a glaring smoking gun (e.g. something on tape), I think the GOP will continue to stonewall even after it all comes out.

I think the GOP are split on protecting Trump right now. There are some - the Corkers, McCains, Collins' of the world who are happy to be critical. Then there's are the bulk of congressional Republicans who remain on board because they want to push policies through for fear of a Democratic mid term wave - Ryan and McConnell are the main leaders of this primary faction. Then you have the members of the insane clown posse - Louis Gohmert, Francis Rooney, Ron Di Santis, Matt Gaetz, Devin Numes, Steve King's of the world who are either hard core conspiratorial types or else in Gaetz and Di Santis' cases, feel like Trump can help them advance their political careers. As 2018 wears on and the prospects of a Democratic wave loom, its likely that more Congress people will attempt to run without invoking Trump than ran using his base popularity. If the Russia investigation explodes any time by way of new information then they are even less likely to use him.

Drumpf lawyers - apparently freaked out that this got leaked - are now vehemently denying the story.

Attacking the credibility of the man you deemed credible enough to appoint as National Security advisor, despite warnings from pretty much everyone about his lack of credibility.

That'll hold up well.

They'll just spin it, and say it proves that everyone agrees he has no credibility.

CNN blanketing coverage about this right now. Basically saying the entire Russia investigation was based on G Pap boasting to Aussie Diplomats that the Russians had dirt on Hillary - two weeks before the emails were made public. This would be in direct contravention to the conventional wisdom that the Russia investigation was started based on the contents of the Steele dossier.

Not surprising.

Trump and all his cronies have been screaming that the dossier is fake for so long that people actually believe it.

Being able to say it was started on something else makes it harder for them to bleat on about fake news. Even if only just.
