Trump/Russia/SDNY investigation

 If this had occurred in normal times, this would be a bombshell story which everyone would be talking about for weeks and weeks. In the Trump era, this story will be forgotten by most people within a few days.

Though i do agree with @Red Dreams. I think its looking more and more likely he'll end up being forced out of office with a deal.

The stuff at the end about Obama's EO on his way out is very interesting.

Yeah, beyond the fact it’s Obama. That decision will obviously not have been Obama’s brainchild. The intelligence community already had a lot of evidence against Trump, his associates and the shenanigans his campaign was up to. They knew the danger he posed and they foresaw the challenge ahead. You just know a group of top analysts and high rankers in each of the agencies will have got together and discussed the importance of working together for the challenge ahead.

It was an easy decision for Obama to sign off on an order like that. I think Trump had heard whispers of all this going on which is why he talks of the deep state and Trump tower being bugged.

I hope when all this goes down, the partisan hacks that have been enabling and actively helping Trump not only don’t get the chance to save him from Impeachment and Indictments but also have to take responsibility for what they’ve done.

WH pathetic response.

There really is a special circle for Sarah when she's done. And by that I likely mean a cushy job at Fox News, but hey ho.

So lifetime Republican James Comey is a partisan hack? How does that even work f*cking work?

Wonder who leaked this to the NYT?

And given it’s an investigation that opened over a year and a half ago, you’d have to think they’ve reached some conclusions by now.

It has to be resolved this year.

From what's written in the NYT article, it looks like it got folded into Mueller's purview.

The NY times report tells me Mueller has had reports not just from the various agencies but also from governments of our allies.

The end is coming soon. Hope he does not manage to run away to Russia escaping his punishment.

As for McConell and his fellow stooges, they cannot run away.
burn burn burn.

He’ll have had intelligence reports and continuing surveillance reports from many countries. The FBI liaises and shares info with numerous nation states on a regular basis. It’s par for the course. That’s how he was able to track Cohen’s movements.....not to mention the rest of them.

The Democrats can walk and chew gum at the same time.
Pass legislation while the committees conduct their investigations.

You can see Trumps allies crumbling already. The rats will abandon ship.

Oh. No wall I'm afraid except the one that Trump will be seeing in his cell.

He won’t just have one wall he’ll have four, with a bit of luck and Mueller.

And he’s right about walls, those walls will definitely keep people out. Might be medieval but they will work. And hopefully he’ll be able to admire them for many years.

Be realistic, the chances of him going to jail are practically zero. Both sides would just end up making some compromise where he resigns. America cares more about the office of the President being protected than it does about justice.

Which is precisely the reason why America is in this mess. It’s almost like this had to happen to highlight the enormous levels of corruption that go on at the top and yet people will invariably choose to ignore the seriousness of it all, just as they are doing at the moment. Dems will fall with Reps though when all this unravels.

We are in uncharted territory.

This is the greatest challenge this nation has faced since the civil war.

In a way you just explained why not as many people will get into serious trouble over this as they should be. Don't forget the Dems have a stake in ensuring they don't go after the repubs after a whole too hard because they ll know everything will be fair game going the other way if they break some of these boundaries. In the end its in both parties' interest to limit some of the ramifications--which also explains why the Dems have been quite mild with the Rs as a whole and instead focus all their ire on Trump.

In an ideal world the decisions on Citizens United and Net Neutrality get overturned, Trump falls, the Kushner family gets rooted out and the NRA falls along with it. I also hope they still find a way to prosecute the likes of Pruitt and DeVos.

Benjamin Wittes said:
First, if this analysis is correct, it mostly—though not entirely—answers the question of the legal basis of the obstruction investigation. The president’s lawyers, Barr in his memo, and any number of conservative commentators have all argued that Mueller cannot reasonably be investigating obstruction offenses based on the president’s actions within his Article II powers in firing Comey; such actions, they contend, cannot possibly violate the obstruction laws. While this position is disputed, a great many other commentators, including me, have scratched their heads about Mueller’s obstruction theory.

But if the predicate for the investigation was rooted in substantial part in counterintelligence authorities—that is, if the theory was not just that the president may have violated the criminal law but also that he acted in a fashion that may constitute a threat to national security—that particular legal puzzle goes away. After all, the FBI doesn’t need a possible criminal violation to open a national security investigation.

All over Twitter tonight:

President Trump has gone to extraordinary lengths to conceal details of his conversations with Russian President Vladimir Putin, including on at least one occasion taking possession of the notes of his own interpreter and instructing the linguist not to discuss what had transpired with other administration officials, current and former US officials said.

Trump did so after a meeting with Putin in 2017 in Hamburg that was also attended by then-Secretary of State Rex Tillerson. US officials learned of Trump’s actions when a White House adviser and a senior State Department official sought information from the interpreter beyond a readout shared by Tillerson.

At this point we need to see his birth certificate to prove he's not Russian

In a on air phone call with Judge Jeanine on Fox News Saturday night President Trump respond to new reports this week by the New York Times that revealed the FBI had opened an investigation into president Trump for fear he was acting as foreign agent for Russia—knowingly, or unknowingly. Trump would not give a straightforward answer when host Jeanine Pirro pressed him on whether or not he’s working as a Russian asset. “Are you now or have you ever worked for Russia Mr. President?” Pirro asked the President. “I think it's the most insulting thing I've ever been asked. I think it's the most insulting article I've ever had written,” Trump responded. “And if you read the article you'd see that they found absolutely nothing.” When Pirro moved on to questions regarding the follow-up report by the Washington Post revealing how the president went to unusual lengths to keep conversations with Russian president Vladimir Putin under wraps Trump denied ever doing so and said he would be happy to share the details of those conversations. “Well Jeanine I would, I don't care,” Trump said. “I'm not keeping anything under wraps, I couldn't care less.”

That last "I couldn't care less" pretty much rules out him being American to be honest.

Pirro for what its worth is one of the smarter ones in the Trump - Fox news orbit and she asks the tougher questions.
