Silly question but I feel like this was obvious? Why is this so groundbreaking?

The stuff at the end about Obama's EO on his way out is very interesting.
WH pathetic response.
Wonder who leaked this to the NYT?
And given it’s an investigation that opened over a year and a half ago, you’d have to think they’ve reached some conclusions by now.

He won’t just have one wall he’ll have four, with a bit of luck and Mueller.
And he’s right about walls, those walls will definitely keep people out. Might be medieval but they will work. And hopefully he’ll be able to admire them for many years.
Be realistic, the chances of him going to jail are practically zero. Both sides would just end up making some compromise where he resigns. America cares more about the office of the President being protected than it does about justice.
In a way you just explained why not as many people will get into serious trouble over this as they should be. Don't forget the Dems have a stake in ensuring they don't go after the repubs after a whole too hard because they ll know everything will be fair game going the other way if they break some of these boundaries. In the end its in both parties' interest to limit some of the ramifications--which also explains why the Dems have been quite mild with the Rs as a whole and instead focus all their ire on Trump.Which is precisely the reason why America is in this mess. It’s almost like this had to happen to highlight the enormous levels of corruption that go on at the top and yet people will invariably choose to ignore the seriousness of it all, just as they are doing at the moment. Dems will fall with Reps though when all this unravels.
Benjamin Wittes said:First, if this analysis is correct, it mostly—though not entirely—answers the question of the legal basis of the obstruction investigation. The president’s lawyers, Barr in his memo, and any number of conservative commentators have all argued that Mueller cannot reasonably be investigating obstruction offenses based on the president’s actions within his Article II powers in firing Comey; such actions, they contend, cannot possibly violate the obstruction laws. While this position is disputed, a great many other commentators, including me, have scratched their heads about Mueller’s obstruction theory.
But if the predicate for the investigation was rooted in substantial part in counterintelligence authorities—that is, if the theory was not just that the president may have violated the criminal law but also that he acted in a fashion that may constitute a threat to national security—that particular legal puzzle goes away. After all, the FBI doesn’t need a possible criminal violation to open a national security investigation.
President Trump has gone to extraordinary lengths to conceal details of his conversations with Russian President Vladimir Putin, including on at least one occasion taking possession of the notes of his own interpreter and instructing the linguist not to discuss what had transpired with other administration officials, current and former US officials said.
Trump did so after a meeting with Putin in 2017 in Hamburg that was also attended by then-Secretary of State Rex Tillerson. US officials learned of Trump’s actions when a White House adviser and a senior State Department official sought information from the interpreter beyond a readout shared by Tillerson.
You’d think his own legal staff would try and steer him away from future libel suits wouldn’t you.
Really! Why?I dunno... As his future defence lawyer I'd be rubbing my hands at his Twitter rants
Because hes going to have to spend millions on legal feesReally! Why?
Hardly. Evidence will be so overwhelming they’ll just recommend he pleads guilty. That takes no time.Because hes going to have to spend millions on legal fees
At several thousand dollars an hour.... Nah I think I be remmomending a pretty full on defenceHardly. Evidence will be so overwhelming they’ll just recommend he pleads guilty. That takes no time.
I admire your optimism, but that’s not how this works.Hardly. Evidence will be so overwhelming they’ll just recommend he pleads guilty. That takes no time.
No you’re right. He just pays people off instead. This is a man who avoids court cases.I admire your optimism, but that’s not how this works.
All over Twitter tonight:
In a on air phone call with Judge Jeanine on Fox News Saturday night President Trump respond to new reports this week by the New York Times that revealed the FBI had opened an investigation into president Trump for fear he was acting as foreign agent for Russia—knowingly, or unknowingly. Trump would not give a straightforward answer when host Jeanine Pirro pressed him on whether or not he’s working as a Russian asset. “Are you now or have you ever worked for Russia Mr. President?” Pirro asked the President. “I think it's the most insulting thing I've ever been asked. I think it's the most insulting article I've ever had written,” Trump responded. “And if you read the article you'd see that they found absolutely nothing.” When Pirro moved on to questions regarding the follow-up report by the Washington Post revealing how the president went to unusual lengths to keep conversations with Russian president Vladimir Putin under wraps Trump denied ever doing so and said he would be happy to share the details of those conversations. “Well Jeanine I would, I don't care,” Trump said. “I'm not keeping anything under wraps, I couldn't care less.”
