Fairly justified imo.
He'll be bricking it if the US courts ever prove Russia undermined US democracy. An angry America with a president elected on the back of that fury would be a seriously terrifying prospect. Putin knows exactly how powerful an enemy the US can be.
I've felt all through this that he overplayed his hand on this one. There will be repurcussions, and god help the rest of us.
The US will not be getting into either a missle war or a land war with Russia over election meddling. The only thing the US will do is sanctions, which is nothing new to the Russians.
If history has shown us anything, it’s that major wars very rarely start out as the intended outcome. Things can spiral out of control very quickly once you put an angry populace in charge of choosing a leader with that much power.
The US being the world's largest oil producer with laws changed to allow oil exports and encourage LNG is new though. That along with some help from the Gulf states flooding the market in combination with sanctions would be suffocating.
Similar to what the current US regime is attempting to do to Iran.
If the US decide to start freezing his assets abroad along with the assets of the other Russian elites and force allies like Britain to start doing the same, he'll rapidly lose the power he accumulated with grift and thievery over the past decade.
That is true, although it may not hurt as much if Russia manage to extricate themselves from the US backed international banking system. If US influence on the world stage can be undermined in regards to the severity of sanctions then I think Russia just might come out of this in a better position on the world stage than 3 years ago.
Not sure I follow. Getting kicked out of SWIFT will be absolutely disastrous for Russian business.

Being cynical, is there any way that this could be intentional in order to hurt Mueller's work? Like, if it's ahead of schedule and could mess up some other part of his case, for example.
Unlikely. I do believe it might be intentional. Trump is in trouble if he knew about the meeting.
Don't hold your breath. Who is going to do this? Trump supporters? Liberals? The usual "super-patriots" were the republicans and they have voted for Trump, they are never going to admit they were wrong (which implies that the right choice was Hillary).

This could be a strong sign that the muller probe is basically safe and should come to a conclusion without hiccup
Will be interesting to see what shenanigans Trump gets up to when Don Jr is indicted. Trump will be going ballistic and think he will be angered enough to try to pull the plug on the investigation.
Alternatively Rosenstein is concerned that the investigation is not being allowed to proceed unimpeded and feels he can’t continue in his position working under an AG who he expects to give evidence against as a witness in an obstruction of justice charge.
I have a feeling that Don Jnr will be indicted by SDNY long before Mueller reaches him.
Based on the pressure Rosenstein has gone through I doubt that's the case. Man has gone through hell with this investigation and survived being fired and impeached multiple times. Think he would only hang his hat if he was sure all was fine. Remember this is so far forward that there's not much of any trump can stop anymore. Especially with dems holding the house.
