Trump/Russia/SDNY investigation

It's heartening that a lifetime of misdeeds is catching up with the players in this story. Manager, Stone and ultimately Trump will die in jail.

I wouldn’t get my hopes up, Nixon didn’t die in jail after all. And by that same token I wouldn’t be surprised if he was ultimately pardoned by his successor whether that’s Pence or the spineless speaker.

Let’s face it, white collar crime is laughably held to account.

You d expect the GOP won't hesitate at all to throw Nunes under the bus when necessary. With everything he does they can easily use him as a scapegoat and depict him as one of the few rotten apples to cover for others. He is very good at making himself look guilty.

Desperate stuff from Nunes and I'm delighted he got told to sling his hook by UK intel agencies. He strikes me as the kind of guy who'd arrogantly expect to waltz over here and have information furnished to him on demand.

feck you Nunes.

Word is that Manafort is cracking and looking for a deal. I hope Mueller tells him to feck off and die in jail.

There's also a view that says Manafort is pretending to want a deal as a delay tactic for Trump to get a pardon through. Apparently McGahn is pushing back against Trump so he would probably have to get rid of him before proceeding. It would probably be perceived as yet another act of obstruction if he followed through, and it probably wouldn't work since prosecutors would still nail him on state charges.

Trump could pardon him next week if he wanted to. The trial isn't for another 3 weeks.

If Trump starts swinging his big three-inch pardon dick around now I think it'll backfire. Why waste a pardon on Manafort?

The comments section suggest Kushner and Hannity are implicated in this.

My god I would love to see Hannity go through a humiliating court battle ending up in jail for 10 years.

Can't help but feel the Manafort lawyer thing needs some sort of immediate national enquiry because like everyone else, we're thinking Vlad has sent a cleanup crew and that can't be accepted as a normal thing that happens surely?

He can't fire Mueller, but he can fire the guy who can fire Mueller until he gets someone who agrees to fires Mueller. It'll be the Saturday Night Massacre all over again. But that will probably kill him politically. He certainly can't do it before the midterms, or the wave will turn into a tsunami.
Hopefully he’s stupid enough to do it

Rudy Giuliani attacks Romania for 'excessive' crackdown on corruption

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2018/aug/28/rudy-giuliani-romania-letter-corruption
By then the former New York City mayor’s letter had been criticised by Romania’s ambassador to the US, George Maior, who said Giuliani appeared to be speaking on behalf of “figures who have problems with the justice system”.

The ambassador’s response in turn angered the Romanian foreign ministry, which said in a statement his words “does not represent the position” of the government. It said Maior was being recalled to Bucharest to discuss his remarks.

Looks like they were indeed uneasy about what McGahn has actually said to Mueller and Trump is pushing towards a pardon for Manafort and others.

If Manafort is pardoned he’ll become a star witness for Mueller. It’s basically offering him immunity at this point and as long as Mueller and co already know the answers to the questions they ask him, he can’t plead the fifth.

Trump will almost surely fire Sessions immediately after the election in November and then try to shut the investigation down. Critical for Mueller to show a few more cards by dropping a few more indictments before then so that each subsequent step Trump makes to shut things down will be viewed as obstruction.

He could if McGahn allowed him to.

We dont want him to make the election

Don't think its related to the testimony he gave to Mueller. It was reported months ago that McGahn would be leaving the WH in the coming months.

I’m struggling to understand Guilliani’s motive for his loyalty.

Is he deluded enough to think Trump will survive long enough for him to be rewarded for his service? Or is he in too deep now with him to the extent his fate is bound.

Because if Trumps legacy ends in the gutter which it almost certainly will, Giulliani’s once coveted reputation will be irreversibly disgraced beyond repair.

If the Dems control the House, it won’t matter if he fires Sessions and gets his successor to fire Mueller. They will reappoint Mueller under the jurisdiction of Congress and ensure the final report is made public. He’ll be toast.

The house could vote to bring back the independent council statute that expired around 2000, but the Senate would need 60 votes to pass Trump's veto. Not impossible, but given today's climate, it could be tough.

For that reason I expect unprecedented electoral shenanigans in November.

It’s possibly the most important midterms ever. If the Dems get in they have the chance to block the SC pick like McTurtle did, enforce future election security, impeach the criminal at the helm, ensure the maps are redrawn with minimal gerrymandering and generally block every cnutish thing Trump or Pence try to do in the next couple of years.

Trump was absolutely right what he said to the evangelicals minus the whole violence thing. A Dem house majority would destroy Trump, not just politically but likely his businesses too if Mueller lays out the corruption Trump org is guilty of. I can’t imagine his brand having much stock following impeachment and criminal proceedings.
