on the plus side
https://www.oddschecker.com/politics/us-politics/to-last-the-full-term-in-office
splitting odds with betfair and 888
you can place bets on him lasting the full term (and make money)
and not lasting the full term (and make money)

Stays 13/8(betfair) placed 1000 return of 2625 (less 1000 from loosing bet) 1625
goes 7/5 (888) placed 1000 return of 2400 (less 1000 from loosing bet) 1400

so yay mr trump you have just made me about 1500 whatever happens... i love how betting reacts so slowly to events... might have to wait a few years but if you have money to spare for a few years its a lot better than the banks going to offer as an interest rate!
I don't bet but it's rare to find such combination of odds isn't it ?

Btw, surely there's no way he can wriggle himself out of this now?

He's screwed. Trump knows worse news is going to come in the next few months.

If you think last night was bad, just wait til Kushner/Don Jr are indicted. We also await the Mueller report which will be given to Rosenstein and that's bound to have damaging information in it.

Exactly, this doesn't magically become a better situation for Trump after yesterday. It only gets worse. It might take some time but at his point, the biggest figures left are either in Congress or his inner circle (Kush, Stone, Jr). The stakes are getting higher and it's only becoming more obvious there's boatloads to take him down. Even his defenders last night were left all muttering the same talking point (or screeching in Hannity's case), 'Where's the collusion?' and looking foolish.

Might be a decent point if Cohen didn't also plead guilty to multiple other crimes like tax evasion

Obama also isn't on tape directing his lawyer to make hush payments to women he slept with, there's a world of difference. Trump is such an idiot, the more he talks about Cohen, the more his involvement stays at the forefront and the more he has to deal with the fact that this is all a result of his own lying and cheating.

Given his track record I think we can guess Trump's next move by trying to think what the most counter-productive thing he could do would be, as that's what he'll very likely end up doing.

My guess he'll admit to instructing Cohen to make the payment, but try to argue that instruction itself isn't illegal.

Am I interpreting this whole thing right, when I'm saying that we're basically at a point, where there is enough reason to impeach Trump, but impeachment in itself is political in nature, therefore we would either need for the GoP to grow a spine (which won't happen) or have to wait until the Dems (hopefully) take over in January and start the impeachment process, putting the US in a sort of standstill for the next few months?

Depends on how the midterms go. It'll be first real test of whether Trump is an asset, liability or a benign influence. If they get spooked by the results then things could get very uncomfortable for him. Even as the vote nears if these developments are reflected by a downturn in the opinion polls for Republicans then some could distance themselves from him sooner.

We’re headed for a standstill regardless, but not for the next few months.

Probably until 2021.

I forgot about that great vice president who would take over. That there wouldn't be new presidential elections after impeachment is baffling to me.

Someone Trump needs to guard against is presumably being challenged from within. Maybe this is why he's still doing rallies. If things do go to the wall and he's challenged for the Republican candidacy for 2020 he's fecked. A sitting president may not be able to be charged, but a former one? His best chance of avoiding jail is staying in office.

He's doing the rallies to keep his base on board, not out of fear of getting challenged from within, but to keep sufficient base sentiment on his side as the Mueller investigation starts to close in on him.

What is amazing to me is that Trump is now acting like Cohen is this wonderful loyal bud of his again - he really is afraid of Cohen isn't he?

BTW if there is nothing illegal or for Trump to hide and its all a with hunt - what would there be for Cohen to flip on Donnie? Don't worry!

"These threats are serious and that's why it's critical that we all work together, but we can't do this alone. We need the (Trump) administration to take more aggressive steps to protect our voting systems. It is their responsibility to protect our democracy from these types of attacks," Lord said in a statement to CNN.

Good luck with that.

I think the republicans are stuck. Their base is with Trump but that base is probably not big enough to win a general election. So they pander to that base to win their primary but then that base is likely not gonna be enough to win against the dems.

Don't forget vigoruous voter suppression and gerrymandering efforts.

Think this is his worst attempt yet. Campaign finance violation not a crime?

My question is why Trump believes that someone can plead guilty to something that's not a crime, and why anyone would ever do that?
