The high ground is great, until the other side push you off it and kick you to death in the gutter. Politics has never been purely inspirational, and funnily enough both JFK and RFK were perfectly capable of getting out the knives when required.
Obama did a great job of being inspirational and where did it get us exactly? A GOP administration, a GOP house and a GOP senate. Oh and so many state Republicans that at one point the bastards were only 1 state away from being able to call a constitutional convention.
Inspiration and hope is great, but if it’s all you have it can easily become conflated with weakness and shallow idealism. You don’t have to fight in the gutter, but you DO have to fight, otherwise the other side will just control the narrative and you lose anyway.
