Trump/Russia/SDNY investigation

Interesting Twitter thread which highlights the correlation of Manafort's appointment and the shift in Trump's policy towards NATO.

Seems Russian intelligence is still going strong post-KGB. Influencing US elections is no joke.

Few people won't be sleeping well tonight based on today's news.

Got a republican congresswoman on hardball going on about Clinton and uranium. She sounds uninformed and unhinged.

Manafort's lawyer didn't seem like a $70m lawyer, at least on the surface. Sounded like someone I could afford

They are better at playing dirty, similar to Republicans being better at playing dirty than Dems.

You could make a case that cyber warfare is the US's number one foreign threat, but that might veer off topic if we really got in depth on it...

Ive been telling this to people for a few years. The "playing field" is far more even. Cyber security in general is a joke. We've become far too dependent without knowing how to secure things.

Maybe he's finally coming to terms with how fecked he is. No tweets from the orange man in over 10 hours. Last tweet was just before the Papadopoulos news broke.

You just have to wonder how much stress a 71 year old guy can take before it becomes a health issue.

Been watching the news tonight and I think they are massively overplaying the danger to Trump at the moment. Trump could eventually get burnt, but Mueller and co still have a long way to go.

Depends which channel you're watching.

CNN have got this spot on imo. There have been two indictments and a guy who has been flipped and has been possibly wearing a wire for the past 3 months. That could be a gamechanger in that it would suggest Mueller is sitting atop a mountain of evidence and is now just basically setting traps and flipping people who are willing to testify against a higher up.

Whichever it is I hope they know what they're doing. Its all turned into a giant circus of a witch hunt and Trump certainly seems like the kind of guy to take others down with him. A power vacuum in the White House won't be a good thing for anyone, Democrat or Republican.

MSNBC primarily. Bit of CNN and Fox too.

Momentum of the prosecution will dry up without a smoking gun. Defense lawyers at this level will poke holes in cases that are more weighted on testimony.

In God we trust...

There is no such thing as a smoking gun in all of this imo. What we are likely to see is a series of events like today where people around the Trump orbit get indicted and flipped until it reaches Trump - all the while eroding his credibility and political capital throughout his term.

Fecking hell. Scary stuff.

That would also be interpreted as obstruction of justice. Trump's only way out of this is to go full on authoritarian and fire every AG until he finds one who will fire Mueller, but that would obviously result in Congress taking action to reinstitute the independent council statute - or else just allow the process to unfold.

Not much , we can only hope. Then next election a Dem wins and they control both houses. First thing they do is put Trump on a health plan that not only does not cover pre-existing conditions but charges 1000x for them.

Following along with all this is entertaining. Would hate to be an American having to live through all this nonsense.

Mueller got a judge to sign of a waiver for manafort's attorney-client privilege (crime-fraud exception). So far it's only speculation which lawyer is affected (maybe Melissa Laurenza).
That is pretty severe. The standards to get such a waiver are imo very high. Manafort is in serious trouble. Mueller is not fecking around.

From the British perspective, I'm desperate for Frotage to be implicated in this mess.
