Trump/Russia/SDNY investigation

To be fair, I too find the suit weird on timing. My only other thought about why it came to be is because they anticipate Mueller being fired and want to have an investigation in place for themselves.

That's possible. Had Mueller been fired I guess it would have been a rationale move. As it stands now it just seems hugely gimmicky and a bit silly and I'm not sure who it's supposed to help. From the PR perspective I'd say Trump.

As long as Democratic voters come out to vote in this anticipated blue wave later this year, it shouldn't matter much the DNC is doing this. Trump will likely be gone before his first term anyway. Time will tell.

Sessions is the weather vane. His support is real, deep, dirty, consolidated. That's the ACTUAL bet-your-ffing-life-on-it, GOP moral backstop. I am no supporter of their cause, but believe me, there is a backstop (invisible to proper liberals), and bet your ass Trump is on course to discover it. This entire adventure, was from the outset, destined to end in floods of salty tears. There was a moment, a fleeting moment, when the conservative but sane right saw real advantage in this most unconventional of candidates. Even liberals saw the excitement, the performance/integrity/dream explosion of a complete fantasy-level unreconstructed alpha-1900's-male in the White House. Trump is a liberal conservative, perhaps a half century before his time. But... He cannot escape his fate. Nor can he fire Muller or Rosenstein, or Sessions. That is why Comey is so ... smug. The old school elves are waiting. They are waiting. The crocodiles wait.

Happy 4/20, bud.

How peculiar .

Flynn Jnr says his father did not lie to Pence ... So Pence knew all along and told a bare face lie on national TV. And then says why would a highly decorated general lie about a completely legal action but then he pled guilty for doing exactly that . And someone this is all the MsM fault.

Weird

This reply cuts through the bullshit. It’s pure obsufication, muddy the waters, create a conspiracy narrative. The guy is guilty and has admitted as much, he didn’t do that on a whim.

The hypocrisy of Hannity is astounding. Called out Obama numerous times for the economy and housing market problems yet bought up foreclosed homes all around the country. Has his financial guru on his show/radio repeatedly. The list goes on.

I hope Mueller can nail his ass on something, or perhaps a state charge by another.

I heard Dershowitz saying that even if Cohen is pardoned, he loses his right to invoke the 5th under oath. That sounds very interesting and means that he would be legally bound to tell the truth even though he is at no risk of going to jail.

I wonder what happens if he commits perjury, just keeps getting pardoned ad infinitum?

Trump is in a difficult position since any attempt to pardon Cohen preemptively will be seen as a blatant attempt to obstruct justice. But allowing Cohen to sing to the authorities would be even more damaging since it would reveal to the Southern District (and by extension Mueller) deeply damaging details about any and all interactions Trump has had with Russians, using Cohen as an intermediary.

He's going to ask Pompeo, post-confirmation, to set up an extraordinary rendition.

Yeah I’ve read that the Presidential pardon is still under some debate about its legal use. The idea is that it’s supposed to be a kind of amnesty tool that is beneficial to the country or at its loosest to commute the sentence of someone that has served some of a long sentence.

As you say, it’s not a tool to be used to obstruct justice, especially not to get the President himself out of legal trouble.

It's a weird power. For a group of men who hated the idea of a monarch, it is a king-like power they conveyed upon the Executive.

Been an eye-opener for me to learn about this during this saga. The Presidential Pardon and the idea that the President can't be charged with a crime are ridiculous rules.

I know in India the (indirectly) elected president can also pardon or sign mercy petitions. Not sure about other non-monarchies, but I think many have this.

I think that we could have universal support on doing away with it if that ever became an issue. It's become a political weapon that serves no useful purpose. Perhaps make it so it can be revoked by a 2/3 majority of the Senate.
