Trump/Russia/SDNY investigation

My view is that Trump will use the threat of escalation in Syria in order to cause panic and sentiment along the lines of "better relations with Russia are vital in preventing a world war". That same sentiment is what he needs to bury the relevance and legitimacy of the Russian probe.

Test:

Muddying the waters:

It gives him ultimate distance in the form of appearing warlike in opposition to Russia, from the Nixon/Kissinger madman strategy, his later tweets casts him as sympathetic to Russia, but only through rhetoric which supports his interests in lessening the impact of the Mueller investigation (or killing it). His role as peacemaker can only exist if the investigation disappears.

He uses threat of world war to shock people and distract the press but also to distance himself from his perceived Russian sympathies (and distract from the investigation into those dealings). He also has a habit of using the "lone crusader" role, the "drain the swamp" Trump.

Manages to look like he''ll initiate a nuclear war (by actually risking a nuclear war, unless the Russians see it for what it is) which boosts his strong man credentials amongst whatever segment of the population value that (a lot of Americans do, even across the political divide).

tl;dr He's posturing. Playing many roles at once, but mostly persecuted victim which he achieves by escalating tensions only to defuse them or make contradictory statements on a regular basis, which brings it back to Nixon and Kissinger.

If Bannon ends up stabbing him in the back after all this, oh that would be amazing. But I think he's too much of a grub to do it, he wants the limelight that comes with being seen as a rebel not a man cucked by Mueller. He is arrogant enough to think he's figured it all out I'm sure.

I doubt he's that smart and calculative. He probably tweet a war and get reprimanded by the sane heads in the situation room

Many people call him Mister Public Servant:

He’s tapping into something quite clever here. His supporters are big on the whole ‘unappreciated America always saving the day’ stuff. It makes me wonder where he’s getting it from. I roll to disbelieve that a rich NY businessman understands these people that well.

If it isn't him directly, it's his office. Which amounts to the same thing. I have no doubt he's playing a role and that it's effective. People watch the clown show and get obsessed by insignificant details whilst the GOP take a hammer to social policies behind closed doors. Playing the media now the same way he did when he was a candidate, and they're still buying it.
Nixon encouraged Secretary of State Henry Kissinger and White House Chief of Staff Bob Haldeman to warn other nations that the president was so unhinged he could use nuclear weapons. “I want the North Vietnamese to believe that I’ve reached the point that I might do anything to stop the war,” Nixon told Haldeman. “We’ll just slip the word to them that ‘For God’s sake, you know Nixon is obsessed about Communism. We can’t restrain him when he’s angry—and he has his hand on the nuclear button.’”

It might work or it might not but it's definitely what he's emulating with regard to foreign affairs.

Also his supporters love the fact that he is talking directly to them. They feel empowered that he 'talks' to them. A POTUS who talks to them directly. Thus their loyalty.

I have a question.

Shouldnt Rod be recused from the obstruction investigation due to the fact that hes one of the main witnesses to the whole thing

Trump tweet, apparently:

If I wanted to fire Robert Mueller in December, as reported by the Failing New York Times, I would have fired him. Just more Fake News from a biased newspaper!

Its hotly debated, but the argument for Rosenstein to not recuse is because the original instructions to Mueller were Russian Collusion (and any other related things that happen to arise). With this as a foundation, we have no evidence that Mueller is investigating obstruction of justice, which is what Rosenstein recusal would be related to. Second, there's a line of thought that suggests that Rosenstein knew Trump was attempting to obstruct justice by firing Comey before he had Rosenstein draft the memo, which would mean that Trump's intention usurped Rosenstein's actions with the memo, and would thus not require him to recuse.

Yes I understand that but if it is shown that Mueller is actually persuing this investigation shouldn't he (Rod) then recuse himself even if he isnt yet called as a witness.

I dont think that Rosenstein is a party to this just because he wrote a memo that is said to have been why Comey was fired. I think that because Rosenstein was asked by trump to write the memo in the first place he (Rod) would be a witness in the investigation of the reasons behind the firing of Comey. Mueller would have to interview him as he would be one of the main witnesses to all of this.

There's an argument that Norm Eisen made when he was debating Dershowitz that also made sense. Can't find a video of it though.

Mentioning the Clinton's plays well with his deplorable part of his base.

«Historically cooperative»

Something someone said to him 10 mins before.

This is a change of tactic, make no mistake. I think they’re going to move ahead with Bannon’s plan of replacing Rosenstein or Sessions with someone who will say no to every one of Mueller’s requests.

Can someone explain this for me?

Basically, they’ve got Trumps lawyer caught in an impossible scenario. The way it’s shaped up, if he claims innocence because of one thing, it’s admitting guilt to another. Bare in mind there’s about 5 sides to that dice and the implications are all vastly different.

I think the chances of flipping him is subzero though. He apparently faces 30 years in prison but even though he’s a snake of a lawyer, he just seems too loyal to Trump.

Really? For what exactly, it seems I haven't really paid enough attention to the details of this Stormy thing.

Claiming the 5th amendment is all well and great if you are in a criminal case. But in a civil case the judge and jury are to expect that anything you refused to answer was damaging to you. So when your in a law suit you can see how that can be an issue as the defendant. Its why hes asked for a stay. Basically a pause on the case till i assume the criminal case is over. If he isnt granted the stay well hes up shit creek with out a boat
