Trent Alexander Arnold

To those saying he should be moved higher up the pitch, if that happens he loses a lot of the space he has to operate in currently. At RB he's less likely to have someone marking him whereas at RW, he'd probably have teams doubled up like Salah does. He's playing a bit more centrally than Robertson when we have the ball and finds a lot of space there.

We scored a goal against Atletico where Alexander-Arnold played the cross in. He had the space for that because Salah and Henderson ahead of him were occupying Madrid players. If he's playing at RW then he doesn't have the same space.

He could maybe play at RWB in a 3-5-2 but Klopp is never going to switch to that. He loves his 4-3-3.
It’s certainly an interesting conundrum. Like you said in your post above, his pros definitely outweigh the cons.

My question to you would be this though: how do you think he would get on at right back for you if Klopp was to leave? Would he still be just as potent under a manger who may be a level below him and in a team that might not be quite as dominant as we’ve come to expect?

That depends on who the manager is I guess. It'll be interesting to see what happens to Alexander-Arnold if someone like Gerrard becomes manager after Klopp. TAA is only 23 so has a lot of time left playing. It's hard to call right now but Gerrard seems to encourage Cash to get forward a fair bit for Villa.

A manager like Mourinho would probably play Milner and Henderson on the right wing to cover Alexander-Arnold's defensive shortcomings.

Gerrard’s right back at Rangers averaged 15-20 goals and 15-20 assists a season. He used him exactly as Klopp uses Trent, even making the same in-possession inside-right midfield positional shift over the last year or so.

And so the future of Alexander-Arnold is...more of the same. This is of course assuming Gerrard takes over from Klopp.

He was atrocious today. Absolutely atrocious. Arguably the worst he’s been this season and that’s saying something.

Look at his ‘defending’ for the throw-in which lead to Welbeck’s goal. He didn’t move a single inch or even attempt to react to the threat, remaining outside the penalty area throughout and allowing Mitoma a free run into the box to follow up any breaking ball. He should be fined two weeks’ wages for that phase of play alone.

He's terrible, has zero interest in defending. Every winger in a major league in Europe would have him on toast.

The commentator for my game kept calling him Trent

Its actually nauseating listening to it all the time.Just because they couldnt be bothered prounouncing his stupid surname fully. Is any other athlete with a double barrel surname referred to only by their first name?

Imagine Ward-Prowse being called James every week as if the commentator knows him personally.

We don’t know whether he can defend or not, but he certainly doesn’t want to.

If that was AWB or Dalot, the press would have an absolute field day.

Good initiative. It’s something that is needed. I watched a doc on the BBC a while back that touched on this. It focuses on a young lad who was released from the Palace academy and he fell into depression. I was surprised to learn that the after care for kids who get released from academies is left up to the clubs to organise and then predictably some do some don’t. This is good stuff from Trent.

Maybe they can teach him how to defend at his academy.

Good initiative, well done.

Liverpool and England's Trent Alexander-Arnold says he wants to be the first full-back to win the Ballon d'Or and be remembered as the "greatest right-back to have played football".

Alexander-Arnold, 26, said he would choose winning the Ballon d'Or over the World Cup.

Just wow.

Not read that link, but if that's his mindset then he's off to Real on a Bosman.

He is absolutely deluded and the English press are to blame. Neville rubbishing his own highly more decorated career, to be in awe of him, was embarrassing.

The likes of Carlos, Cafu, Marcelo, Alves, Lahm, Breitner, Zanetti and even England’s own Ashley Cole were all comfortably better. So many names who were more athletic, better defensively and all round better footballers.

He is a gifted passer, but that doesn’t make up the difference in quality.

Not convinced he's been a better one than Kyle Walker thus far but he could improve I guess.

Considering Dani Alves was already better at everything he is good at, far better physically and has won more trophies than any player ever. He'd have to do miracles and suddenly develop into a much better player at 27.

It’s good to be ambitious like this.

Never going to happen though, let’s be honest. He’s…adequate.

Hopefully this is a signal he’s off to buddy up with Jude at Real, all for the sweet transfer fee of nothing.

Praying that Slot isn’t all that and he’s simply living off of Klopp’s merits so far. If they lose TAA, Salah and VVD all for free in the summer it would be beautiful.

He'd rather win a made up individual award than win the World Cup?

What a total bell, there's being ambitious but he sounds deluded.

Zambrotta was a better player too.

No way Dani Alves was better at crossing and set pieces. Trent creates more chances too actually and probably a better long range shooter too.

Incredible quotes. There's people even on RAWK who can't believe his ego and arrogance.

I think some of you probably underrate him, he does stand out as an attacking threat. Hard to imagine him every ironing out his deficiencies though.

He's definitely a good player but talking about being the best player in the world and the best right back of all time is a bit OTT.

Even based on that stat he's only 5 ahead of Trippier over the last 2 seasons.

Wanting to win the baloon door over the world cup? I can't undertsand some people, comes off as self centred and what actually is that award anyway? Like 99.99% of people on earth he's likely heard of very few of journalist judges (100 in 100 countries), doesn't know their names, and has no reference point as to whether their opinion is worth a thing. Nobody reads France Football either apart from a small number of French people.

Thinking he can actually win it?

He's a good player but an certainly an attacking threat. Nowhere near the category he's aiming for though.

As a bit of an aside, big chances is a bad stat. One is awarded if the Opta people subjectively award it and that's it. In this day of xG you get situations where a chance that is 0.20 xG is not given as one and a chance that is 0.14 xG is called a big chance depsite the first actually being a bigger chance to score. They just make it up as they go along.

xG is also a deeply flawed stat though.

Infinitely better than someone working for Opta who you and I have no clue who they are deciding to press the big chance button or not at a particular moment. Depending on mood or which operative is looking at a particular game there can be no consistency whatsoever.

It's true that xG is flawed too, it's not perfected either but at it least it attempts to be objective.

I don't agree at all. Removing human decision making only makes it more objective, not more accurate. I think we're probably at the limits of how long a debate about this the TAA thread justifies mind.

Scouse, not English. Remember.

He's very good and has been lucky enough to play in a system that highlights every strength he has. Which is what a good manager should do. He's had a RW that doesn't need him overlapping, a LW that is direct and a brilliant goal threat benefitting from his diagonals, and a workman midfield that will cover him every single time.

He's massively overrated by Pool fans and that fanbase is very loud on socials and in the media.

He’s turned it around under Slot defensively. A complete player this year. I still think he’s leaving though to join his buddy.

He’ll never win the Ballon d’Or, what would he win it for? Some nice passes and ‘big’ chance creation give me a break. Dalot may as well come out with it next.

bad look for the Prem if he walks away, the league is short on stars as it is, expect the pundit outcry would be massive
