Transfer Tweets - Summer 2017 | Keep it on topic

Well, well, is it that time of the year, already? Signing new contract with Barca? Didn't he do that recently? I can expect Ronaldo to do the same in a day or 2, but instead City he will use us, as usuall, and all the mupets on Cafe will scream: "Come on Woody, get him home" :wenger:
10 more days of this...

Messi himself won't leave, as it would mean he will tarnish his image and rapport with the fans. He values his Barca legacy. Maybe he will leave in another 3-4 years, but not now, though he will likely make occasional threats to up his salary.
Barca will lose half of their non-Spanish fanbase to whatever team Messi plays for.

Also looking at the circumstances it's hard to blame him. Just look at how many current players publically called out the club.

A 45 year old Iniesta could boss PL midfields.
Nah. His legs have gone, no matter how good your control is if you can't run in football you won't go anywhere.

If Barca implode into mediocrity, Madrid would probably benefit short term obviously but La Liga would be a lot less appealing long term as a "peak destination" for players if Madrid are the only good team there. You don't see Bayern or Juventus stealing stars from our teams, possibly Madrid would struggle to do the same eventually.

Having some right old problems aren't they! Neymar, the Messi City rumours, Iniesta, Xavi recently gone. Really going to struggle to get back ahead of Real in the short term.

Shows even the best teams you can't see dipping can. Their clear advantage is even with a severe dip they'll still be 2nd in their league at worst.

I'm not sure that's the best analogy really, Bayern and Juve steal top players from other teams from their own country, they usually have first dibs on all the best rising stars in their leagues. Neither pay ridiculous transfer fees very often either, especially not compared to the prices paid by Premier League teams or Real and Barca, although they do financially out muscle anyone else from their own leagues. Both have world class players and both have beaten United to players recently AND both have refused to sell United players in recent years too.

They'll get guaranteed Champions League, but i see Atletico at the least pipping them to No. 2. Zidane will win the league by a Country mile.

Once you've over doubled the last transfer record, anything can now happen. Remember when we saw the figures for a players buy out and think it was ridiculous....we'll think again. Messi 300m, I can def see it happening....

A 30year old Messi isn't leaving Barcelona. Maybe in a few years time

If Zlatan returns, he better not be a guaranteed starter. We look rejuvenated at the moment, playing quicker more aggressive football with lots of variety in our play. Zlatan, while a beast, will see us revert to putting all our plays directly to/through him and we'll be back to 0-0 and 1-1 before we know it.

I initially liked a the idea of the transfer window closing earlier, until it was suggested that it would apply to purchases only.

Yay, let's lose players without being able to replace them. Who comes up with these ideas… this one is beyond stupid.

Yeah, I don't really get why the English FA would want this. For the big clubs, I guess it's fine, but for selling clubs (i.e., the Coutinho saga is a good example) won't allow them to buy replacements. Could be disastorous for the middling to small English clubs.

I love me some Ibra, always have. But I don't know how he fits into this current United squad. We have better choices at every position he plays, whether it's as a striker or dropping into an AM role. I guess he could play as a second striker, but we hardly ever play a supporting formation. And I'd rather see Rashrord / Martial get that as many opportunities to play at their natrual ST position as possible.

If he's happy to come and be a mentor / backup for Lukaku, awesome. But that kind of role doesn't fit his desire / personality.

Ibra will come in as backup striker and will give respite for Rom given its a long season. Let's not be too negative about Ibra as many of the games were other people's misses....

⚠️ #ManchesterCity going to buy #Messi, #ManCity is ready to pay the 300 M clause € !

If this goes through, Barsa to finish 6th this season? They can't afford to lose both Neymar and Messi in the same window.

If barcelona end up losing Messi, Nobita and his board will have to flee to South America...not smilies because it's dead serious

Regarding Messi he isn't going to leave Barca, not in this transfer window nor the next. £300 million to City not going to happen. Purely speculation, a ridiculous rumour. He is Barca through & through.

Regarding Zlatan, great to have him back for the second half the season as a backup striker, continuing to mentor Rashford et al. The guy has such a winning mentality, he will push us towards the title. Great news.

Messi is not gonna leave. He's playing games with the board to push for new, stronger signings.

You don't leave Barcelona for Manchester City. Such a thing does not happen.

Is leaving Barca for PSG that much different?

On one hand I'd hate for City to get him. On the other, I'd love to see him in the prem.

If he's really leaving Barcelona on a free, then we'd also try for him(and so would every other big club in the world)

I thought the price mentioned was 300 mil?

In the article Castles has posted, he says that Messi's contract is expiring in 2018(which I just double checked and it seems true) and also that City are more likely to try to sign him on a free.
