Transfer Tweets - Summer 2017 | Keep it on topic

United badly lack a world class left-footed winger. Or ANY left-footed winger for that matter. The attack is lop-sided, and the people who 'fill-in' there like Mkhi and Mata always drift inside or out of the game altogether.

Battering an average (at best) West Ham side at home is one thing, but the Super Cup showed that United are short at least a couple of the highest quality players to compete at the top table.
Do you mean right? Mata and Mkhitaryan play on the right wing.

This "top table" argument does become tedious. We haven't finished in the top 3 of the epl for 4 years. That's the first objective. Winning the ucl is something Juventus, PSG, Bayern haven't come close to recently, never mind any english team.
Smash your bottom 13 teams home and away, and nick points off the top 5. That's the SAF model and what Jose is focused on. The UCL is a longer term project.

Honestly, why do we need to buy?

If Martial starts banging them in from wide left and Rashford does too, why do we need to buy?

People talking about a left back. Blind was awful pre-season but actually decent on Sunday. If Shaw comes back and finds form. Why buy?

Our problem last season was missing easy chances. We seem to have gone some way to remedying that. So why just spend more cash? Why not give our squad the chance to prove itself?

Because if those if statements don't come true we are going to be fecked again like last year.

What makes you think those statements will come true besides blind hope ?

I don't think you can expect us to be automatically competing against the likes of Real yet. I think that will take another season, but we're more than capable of turning those home draws into wins - which would significantly improve our standing from last year.

Also - seeing as your a Swansea fan, you bid for Seri earlier in the window, right? (albeit quite a low ball bid). You think you'll go back for him with the Sigurdsson money burning a hole now?

Doubt it. I like him, but he'd cost more than the club would be prepared to spend. We need players, but even with Gylfi money, the club planning to buy the stadium from the council, so there won't be cash to burn.

Munir and Samper are available from Barca, and the former would be available with a buy-back and the latter on loan, so that's where I'd look to invest some the cash. Bony looks like he may return for about £13m, too.

Martial has been in great form in pre-season, he scored a few days ago in a competitive game. What makes you think he won't get back to himself?

As for Shaw, no we won't be f'd if we don't buy a left back. Blind played fine at the weekend. Its not a must buy position right now. We can afford to wait until the right players are available.

You're talking way too much sense for the transfer forum.

We do need cover though, we had terrible luck with injuries last season, and the ones before that too to be honest, and we have to assume that there will be some element of injury woe once again this season.

All of last season.

Don't get me wrong I want him to succeed and he started the season well but there is always a possibility that his good form will disappear again and starts playing crap like last year, I hope not but he seems extremely vulnerable to confidence issues. If that happens again and we are counting on him as a major player upfront and we don't have any real alternatives in the squad than imo we are fecked.

Shaw is an even worse case because he has hardly played over the course of 3 seasons. I'd say it would be a miracle if Shaw could remain fit and get back to his best form again. I'am not hoping on it because it probably won't happen. He looks like a crocked player. Blind and Darmian are good for cover but not much more if they need to play everything like last year again than we will simply be playing with a very weak leftback and if Martial won't deliver consitently, the entire left wing will be weak.

That is why you buy now when the market is open and you can restore these issues in the squad.

We've got enough cover now if nobody is sold I reckon.

At right back we have Valencia, Darmian, Jones and even Smalling plus Lindelof can also cover there.

Centre Back we have Bailly, Jones, Smalling, Lindelof, Blind as cover and Rojo to come back.

Left back we have Blind, Darmian, Shaw hopefully proving the best option (we should know by the next transfer window so I'd use that one if needed not this one) and *shudder* Rojo coming back as cover. Even Young can cover.

That's without the younger options so I can't really see the need to add defensively unless you are replacing someone with a new first choice player which is a different thing altogether.

Please take the detailed discussion into a relevant thread guys(create a new one if needed), keep this uncluttered.

I think we are sorted defensively, and for once we have great depth in the centre of the pitch too, my worry is decent attacking cover. I dont want to be in a situation where we are having to rely on Rashford and Martial to be netting 15 each, as well as then having to figure out what we do on the wings again, it was a problem last season that we havnt adequately solved yet.

EDIT: oops, sorry @Varun

Can't quote the tweet regarding us delaying the 4th signing until January but surely it has to refer to Greizmann right? (at least I hope so). No point spending another 40-50 million on an alternative if we can gut out a few months until we can buy our number one choice.

Although could probably refer to waiting for Rose to get back from injury as well.

Or be total BS.

40m is the new 20m. Crazy money.

Well it has always been crazy but this summer takes the cake. So far :nervous:

Again highlights the importance of sell-on clauses. We should be getting a few million out of that deal ideally, although I'm not sure if sell-ons are usually valid if/when the player signs a new contract with his club.

Every club will be inserting sell-on clauses now, with how the market has exploded.

40million for Danny Drinkwater is absolutely insane, the worst one so far IMO.

Good player, but worth 15million maximum, and that's using 2017 interest rates. Absolute madness.

Moronic to keep a player that doesn't want to play for you it can only cause negative vibes in a dressing room.
It's far better than selling your best player to a rival and having the fans turn against you at the start of the season.

Not only him it seems, Ozil and Chamberlain want to jump ship too..

Wenger also said in his last press conference that Wallcot will be staying this season however it's uncertain whether he will be here the next one.

Arsenal might end up having a baffling squad next year considering they'll have to spend stupid money to replace everyone.

Yes absolutely right. We can't realistically catch up with Real or Bayern in one window and it would not be smart to try. The question is can we win the league. I think we have a chance.
