Liverpool should bite their hand for that fee. Coutinho is a very good player, no doubt but he is not consistently very good. I wouldn't put him in the ranks of those rare X-Factor players. When he was injured last season, Liverpool's results didn't become as disastrous as many predicted unlike when Mane went to the Nations Cup or missed many games.

The money from the Neymar deal was supposedly paid up front though, wasn't it?

If Barcelona secure both Coutinho and Dembele then those deals will most likely be in instalments, with bonuses making up the total. Also, the combined weekly wages for both will probably be less than Neymar's.

Neither player is close to Neymar's level (atm) of course, but all in all I think Barcelona will probably be stronger with those two than they were before Neymar left.

Yep. Barca have 200 mill to burn.

Exactly and really why I was very much in favor of selling Neymar

It's how I see it as well

So now he wont feel the need to develop in low pressure? all this type of talk is non sense, agents are taking talents to small clubs initially because they earn big pay checks with big money transfers.

I think they should quote 150 m euros.

It doesn't matter how the money was paid and how they spend it. In their books they'll always amortise the expenditure on a new player over the length of his contract.

They're going to lock in one of the next generation's top stars virtually unopposed. Impressive! Madrid will get Mbappe too I think. Thought that with the new PL money and oil clubs they might lose this ability, but it seems not.

The English clubs, including us seem to lack the sense to chase these kind of signings. The only ones that have been made are Aguero and Hazard, not a surprise that they have been the best two players in the league over the last 5 years. Wish we'd learn. People may say that he'd choose Barcelona over us which might well be true but I'd be much happier seeing us at least in the race for him.

This does seem to be true. There are some players that everyone can see will be superstars and we seem to ignore them for some reason. Perhaps afraid of being made to look bad facing Madrid/Barca? But then why not go for Dembele (for example) when we'd have only had to rival Dortmund. People could see then that he'd be a star.

If we can see it surely the club can? I'm somehow not convinced he was even on the radar though, which is really annoying. Obviously that's a massive assumption on my part which may well be wrong but it certainly feels that way with a lot of these players. I wouldn't even mind 'looking bad' by missing out because it'd show we're after the right players, and by law of averages we'd bag our fair share over the course of 4-5 seasons.

Pogba as well.

Pogba as well.

Yeah fair point, our best signing in the last 4 years pricisely for those reasons. Good age, amazing potential and a real shot of being the best in the world in his position. These are the players you need to fill your key positions with.
