Didn't Matic want to leave last summer as well, but Conte convinced him to stay another season? They also offered Matic a new contract and he refused to sign it, so Chelsea could either have kept him against his wishes or sell this summer for a good fee. The Madrid press have started the anti-Bale agenda again though, so there is a possibility that they are trying to push him out. That's an even more likely scenario if they're trying to make space in the squad and finance a move for Mbappe.
