Transfer Tweets - Summer 2017 | Keep it on topic

Someone needs to tell him about the face saving briefing City are doing in the media

Throw £100m at Monaco for Lemar + Fabinho instead while they're in a selling mood.

Interesting.

It might sound odd but I actually think it will be a bigger risk paying 100 million GBP for Bale than buying Mbappe for 160 million GBP. Bale joined Madrid in 2013 for close to 100 million Euros and has played only 100 games for them since then. He is 28 years old at the moment and nothing guarantees he will stay fit. Mbappe is 18, talented and is believed by some of the world's most outstanding scouts to be football's next major star. The money being quoted for him is insane but 100 million for Bale will be more insane if you ask me.

Best case scenario - RM sell us Bale to finance Mbappe.

Worst case scenario - City get Mbappe, on top of their already outrageous spending and complete squad overhaul.

So they still have crap CBs and are light at CM even though they have spent the best part of £400m fine by me

As far as his generation is concerned, Mbappe is the real deal. I am betting on that kid to be a MEGA star. I can easily see why most of the top clubs in the world want him badly after only one season. Mbappe makes my jaw drop when I watch him play. No kidding. He is very quick, very sleek, very ruthless. He is incredibly confident for his age. Even when he has a bad game, you can see that talent just waiting to explode. Of course he may end up flopping or not meeting up with all the hype but that is unlikely.

Yes, the money is completely insane but it's more about where the market is at the moment than any other thing.

I have never read such Hyperbole but in all my days.

Christ the lad played to a decent level in a well run team that was battering the French league. Monaco scored over 100 goals I believe and he scored 21.

His potential is of no guarantee of future performance or return. Look at Owen, destroyed teams at 18, by 24 his career was on the slide, never won anything of note. Look at Anelka. Too many examples.

Mbappe has in his favour the fact he will go to the best current team, gives him a wonderful platform on which to perform (also this can be a hinderance as the pressure and spotlight is that much greater).

But that team will mask his lack of performance if there is any as they have so much firepower. And the biggest issue he has to his career is two fold; 1) if he doesn't hit the heights the fee demands, the only way is down regarding next club and 2) he will be fine until Madrid sniff around the next hyped up youngster.

I don't disagree. Just pointing out that if Mbappe moves, it could potentially work out very nicely for us, or strengthen a rival.

Let's hope that the worst case scenario doesn't happen. I'm hoping the best case scenario does though in that Real sell us Bale to finance Mbappe.

I don't think it really strengthens them overall. They already have very good fire power in attack, it's not their weakness. I get your overall point but it wouldn't really worry me as much as them signing Verratti or Bonnuci.

Levy is such an arrogant git that needs to get off his high horse. This is the same man that puts price tags of over £50 million on average players like Eric Dier. If it was benefiting him he'd be keeping schtum.

If he wasn't broke from his stadium plans he'd be in there as well, but as a result has had to lowballing clubs for their players. Actually even if he did have money he'd do that. Prick.

And yet this is a man who has signed up for £400m worth of loans to finance a new £750m stadium, at the same time as capping the wages of the players who have secured 2nd and 3rd places finishes, Champions League football and big prize money.

Spurs are indebted for the foreseeable. Failure to keep top talent will see them squeezed. Lose Pochettino and they could be back in the mire.

Levy is the one taking a gamble.

He's probably right.

Sky TV's viewer numbers are shrinking, they've had to rebrand and repackage in the past month, wage increases have been lagging behind inflation this year and with Brexit looming expensive Sky TV deals may be the first to get cut out of household budgets etc... It's not implausible to think that football is in a somewhat precarious position.

I stated clearly in my post that the fee is insane but it has to be contextualized within the existing inflation in the market.

Well, judging football talent can be extremely subjective so I have no problem with your take on Mbappe. I only shared my own view while I also admitted he may flop or never meet up to expectations like some of the examples you gave. That is a reality of life and not just football.

Most people agree that Mbappe is very special. Scouts, coaches, journalists, pundits etc. That has to count for something. The same hype surrounded players like Messi, Ronaldo, Iniesta, Rooney etc after their first seasons as young lads. There are many other young lads that never get the same level of hypes and that tells you that people tend to recognize special talents. Again, like you said, it doesn't mean that such talents always blossom as much as people expect.

This is where clubs take risks. It was risky when Barcelona paid a world record 5 million pounds for Diego Maradona back then and it was risky when United paid about 12 million for Ronaldo to get him out of Portugal.

It's true that Mbappe has had only one successful full season, but he was observed for a few years before then. Last season only validated the notions experts had on him.

Anyway, the whole situation is interesting. Let's see where things swing.

Agree I would not touch Bale for anything over 55 million. I think he is injury prone and his game has always been based on his physical gifts.

Yeah, what a prick. Who does he think he is, looking after his club's finances responsibly? He only wants Spurs to spend what they earn? Absolute wanker.

Am I doing this right?

The clubs spending the most are spending fractions of their declared turnover. Only way it's unsustainable is if City/Chelsea get fecked with FFP.

Levy is just moaning.

Don't think so what he is saying is outside of top 7 clubs , the other 13 clubs are charging each other a fortune to buy what is good players and TV money they get is about £90m and they are blowing it on 3 players , eventually the power they have to keep the players due to TV money will erode and the top 6 or 7 will become even more powerful than they are now

WBA are suppose to be after Gibson and he is going to cost £20m for a championship player that is madness and i see quotes of if Smalling leaves us, WBA or WH want him for £10m come on surely and England international should be worth the most and Gibson about £5m

Levy knows the top 7 clubs can sustain their buying if they want and it wont cause the club to be in financial trouble but if the other 13 clubs overspend they could be in big trouble like Leeds and Portsmouth were not long ago

Maybe I'm letting my personal bias and the fact that he's taken United to the cleaners every time we've declared an interest in one of their players cloud my judgement of him. He's just a dislikeable guy in general (but very good with finances and buying/ selling players).

From Sky Sports -
ARSENAL LATEST

Where do Arsenal stand with their transfer plans?

  • We are told talks between Monaco and Arsenal are continuing over the transfer of Thomas Lemar. Discussions centre on the size of the fee and the structure of the payments.
  • There is an expectation Paris Saint-Germain will make a bid for Alexis Sanchez, but Arsenal's stance remains the same - he's not for sale and he will be at the club next season.
  • Lucas Perez talks are continuing with former club Deportivo La Coruna over a fee.
  • Arsenal are also in discussions with Crystal Palace over Calum Chambers. The Gunners' valuation is thought to be £20m.
  • Jean Michael Seri has again been linked with Arsenal.

The midfielder enjoyed an excellent campaign for Nice and only Thomas Lemar - another Gunners other target - managed more assists in Ligue 1.

According to L'Equipe, Nice have agreed to let the 26-year-old leave for €40m this summer. Roma were keen to finalise a deal, but couldn't meet the release clause.

MAN UTD LATEST

  • Sky in Italy say Manchester United are favourites to sign Chelsea's Nemanja Matic after Juventus switched their attention to PSG's Blaise Matuidi. Matic isn't on the club's pre-season tour and may find his chances at Stamford Bridge limited next season following the arrival of Tiemoue Bakayoko.
  • We understand the attacking player Jose Mourinho is after is Inter Milan's Ivan Perisic, but the Italian club continue to play hard ball.
CHELSEA LATEST

  • Diego Costa looks set to leave Chelsea but his preferred move to former club Atletico Madrid is complicated by a transfer ban. Sky in Italy are reporting Costa's agent Jorge Mendes met with AC Milan directors yesterday.
  • Chelsea remain interested in Juventus left-back Alex Sandro. Juve are reluctant sellers and have offered the Brazilian international a new contract. It is thought Chelsea would need to spend £60m to have any chance of getting Sandro.
  • Inter value Antonio Candreva at £20m and the player's agent 80% chance he will remain at the San Siro.
  • Swansea's Fernando Llorente is still on Chelsea's list. Antonio Conte knows him from their time together at Juventus and he tried to sign the striker in January

TRANSFER HEADLINES

  • Reports in Spain suggest Liverpool's Philippe Coutinho has agreed terms to join Barcelona. Liverpool have already turned down a £70m offer and say Coutinho is not for sale.
  • A source close to Virgil van Dijk thinks he could join Liverpool. The Reds' stance hasn't changed, having apologised for what Southampton described as an unauthorised approach for the Dutchman and ended their interest in the player.
  • Talks continue between Everton and Swansea continue for Gylfi Sigurdsson but the clubs are still far apart in their valuations. Swansea won't sell for less than £50m but Everton's package so far totals £40m.
  • Tottenham are interested in Hoffenheim right back Jeremy Toljan, but the player's agent says there has been no contact yet.
  • Roma are expected to go back in for Riyad Mahrez, having so far offered only half of Leicester's £40m valuation.

Sorry - I don't agree with this at all. What is he supposed to do ? Sell Dier for £10 million and spend £40 million to sign a similar player. He is entitled to not want to sell his players, but Spurs in fairness aren't buying players for £80 millions. He can't run his club into the ground out of principle.

Sign up the Monaco scouts; they clearly know what they're doing! (I'm being half serious!)
