Transfer Tweets - Summer 2017 | Keep it on topic

What is a genuine orthodox winger these days? Even mid and lower table sides often play with inside forward types.
A winger who can do something other than drift inside? Costa, Perisic, Walcott, Navas, Sterling, Ribery, Mane...all of those could go outside and no, not all of them are any good. At least I left off Zaha though!

I will give you Costa, Navas and Perisic the rest nah.

I agree with the below posters...

... we need to publicly end interest and move on. Inter obviously want to keep the player beyond the point of accepting a reasonable bid for him.

They know there's 0 chance of us paying 50m + Martial for Perisic. They are not even trying to get an actual deal out of this. They are seeing our persistence for Perisic as interference that is unsettling their player and are responding in kind by involving Martial in the rumours.

Perisic has not slapped a transfer request or made any fuss. Unless that changes, we need to just back off and move to the next one.

The thing is, they would've been perfectly happy at 45mil before the FFP deadline. If us using the FFP deadline as leverage was so distasteful to them, then just say Perisic isn't moving for any price and stop trying to unsettle Martial to try to get back at us. Stop trying to up the ante & create more bad blood. I hope the 2 sides are adult enough to do that, but it seems the current modus operandi is to annoy teams via the press. Heck, it''s quite possible that this whole brouhaha is just a press fantasy conjured to sell papers/generate clicks.

As it stands, I'd rather just look elsewhere. As noted above, it's obvious Inter doesn't want to deal, so let's look at other options. Heck, let's all just re-evaluate the needs for the upcoming season, since a lot of the planning really hinged on Griezmann in the first place. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised to just add someone like Renato Sanches or a LB and stand pat until January.

I think it a big part of it comes down to no one respecting Woody. He's not a football guy and other owners/football suits look down on him. They really should hire someone with a football background who is aggressive but measured for the transfer dealings of the club.

Except football is still a business. negotiations, budgets, buying and selling etc- it needs business people.

Having a 'football guy' in charge of a business would be utterly insane.

This.

Ed, doesn't pick the players, and he doesn't work alone. Mourinho selects his list, a team (including football types) will sit down and discuss values, based on the player, and our need for them. Ed will then start negotiations with that club, he's the money man, that his job. He knows our limits, not just for the initial purchase, but including the wages, and potential add ons. He'll weigh that against any increase in earnings if we meet the parameters to be paying those add ons and so on and so on.

He is exactly what is needed in that role, a tough negotiator, who knows the finances of the club inside out. Not a football man, who doesn't necessarily understand the limits, or have the skills for multi million pound negotiations.

They are very good opposition fans on here, and the more the merrier.

But when your sole reason of being on a rival forum is to just pick silly arguments, one needs a serious look at their priorities. The only thing he does now is derail any thread he enters.

No way Glastonspur should be banned. He's got over 10,000 posts on the caf - as big a United supporter as any of us :)

This is madness. Get someone from other leagues for feck's sake. Why Sigurdsson?

Hm? You are confusing the word publicly with officially. Something can be public but unofficial, like our interest in Morata was very public but unofficial. Clubs often intentionally leak stuff to the press either for point scoring or to get a reaction.

So I didn't mean we put out an official statement, but we leak it to the press that we are not interest any more and it's done. Because telling Inter to feck off is one thing, but telling the world that we told Inter to feck off is quite another.

How many times have we been linked to certain Porto players? Is that link coming from United every summer?
We get linked a lot to players every summer, do the club have to deny every bit of speculation? seems Inter are the mouth piece with regard to Perisic, so maybe they need to shut up if they're so desperate to keep him.

Our interest in Morata was discussed by Jose at a press conference. That was both offical and very public. So maybe you're the one getting confused.

He's worth the world to Swansea, they scored 45 goals in PL last season and he was directly involved in 23 of them.

Can't blame PL clubs wanting 50M. for a player wanting to move to a another PL club. Man City deal for Walker has kinda set a benchmark for this window.

I know but it's still a crazy fee to be honest.

Both have been regulars for a team that's challenged for the last two titles and been the best team in England over the last 2 years combined

Sigurdsson scores a few free kicks

If you say he only scores a few free kicks then surely you know little about football.. English players are overrated, last Euro showed it when they couldn't even won Iceland!

I mean you aren't really helping your case by sticking to the "they're English so obviously shit" stance.

I thought CBJ was class under Van Gaal. His crossing was impressive. Would prefer a loan with this one.

If I was him I'd leave. No better club to develop at. Mourinho doesn't seem to rate him. It'd be a shame, I think he'd be a a good player for us. He was decent when he got a chance from LvG.

That's how the transfer fees have got so stupid in the PL. Clubs are filthy rich so have no reason to sell.
