Guardiola's buys deserve way more scrutiny than they are getting. Imagine the flack we would get if we shipped out Bravo and Nolito after 1 season, not to mention Stones.

They get away with it because no one gives a shit about City. We get criticised for everything because we're always news worthy.

We could outbid them with ease.
Not sure its just about outbidding them. Didnt they get a bit annoyed at Barca over trying to sign Thiago Silva? Perhaps they'd rather sell to anyone but Barca because they can afford to reject any bid, but knowing as Barca players all have release clauses, they could concievably buy any Barca player they wish

After seeing A.Pereira play so deep for us, I must say I'm now not as eager for Verratti as before. Not saying he's not a wonderful player, though.

I think Southampton's model puts paid to the idea that clubs can't take a risk. They can, they should just be better at laying the ground work when it comes to scouting and gathering data. As it is, such is the regard that Southampton are now held in, it makes recruiting talent much easier for them. They have a proven track record.

It pays to be smart.

I do find it quite incredible just how poor so many mid-size Premier League clubs are at recruitment. Particularly when Southampton's own model has been well documented.

Quite agree Southampton have been excellent in this regard, and it's far from impossible. But it's still less risky to recruit from within, as a lot of variables are taken out of the equation. It's not something that is unique to football, but business the world over.

Paying less for a riskier option, in this case a player from Europe, can give huge returns though.

I guess if you can attract them, then buying multiple players from Europe is a good bet rather than one from within the UK. Chances are some will live up to the expectation. The difficulty is attracting enough of the decent players over to the UK, especially for teams in less glamorous locations.

That said, Southampton do a sterling job at it, so maybe others should try more. It also depends on whether you're buying to sell on (eventually), or buying to have the best chance at a regular starter.

Because he's the media's darling. We are still getting criticized for signing Pogba, but not a word on the money Pep wasted last summer and the players he's flogged already.

Juventus' priority is to sign a central midfielder this summer. They'll probably sign one of Matic, Matuidi or Can.

Perisic would do well for us but as I've said before, if they have the cheek to even ask for Martial, move onto other targets.

Di Marzio is saying there's been "positive" contacts between Inter and Martial's representatives.

There's also something about Martial being available, but I'm using google translate so it could be something else entirely.
