Transfer Tweets - Summer 2017 | Keep it on topic

What happened to all the people saying this was a certainty and he was ours?

Maybe we should never have doubted Di Marzio

Setting aside the crap source.

If we plan to activate the clause why would it matter if he has asked or not?
Legally, it's a player who 'buys out' his value from his contracted club; he pays the amount owed. He has to want to do it and so personally approach his club with a formal letter of intention to leave his club by buying out the value of his contract.

Practically the club the player wishes to join will pay the 'buy out' amount owed.

I'm not sure if that means the financial transaction occurs between the 2 clubs, or the buying club first sends the monies to the players bank account and the player then pays his club but both amount to the same.

If we offer Griezeman €100m to buy out his contract, but Griezeman decides he wants to stay at his club, there can be no transfer as the player; if he stays then he won't buy out his contract.

They've all been briefed obviously. It's either mind games with Athletico or we truly have moved on.

Fecking gutted honestly, Griezman would be amazing.

Recent Weeks?!?! Till a few hours before the CAS ruling, everyone was going Griez is effectively done and we were extremely interested. Had he said that Utd have withdrawn interest now that we'd have to pay the full fee upfront, it would've sounded much more believable

Di Marzio is fecking wizard, that thing about Griezmann being our third priority sounded ridiculous when I first heard about it

Well it's not like Ibra was just injured was it? So can't be due to that surely.

fecking stupid if you ask me, one of the genuine best players in the world and we no longer want him because our aging striker who we got on a free transfer looks likely to leave.. great long term planning that.

We need a #9 and a #10 this summer what with Rooney likely to leave as well.

Not fecking pleased.

I think that is what is left of the transfer. United will not want to pay 70-80 million upfront as that would be problematic. Not impossible. But difficult.

Haven't looked at our P&L for a while but you're correct, swiping £80+ off this years balance sheet would make it very difficult to complete many other transfers.

Absolutely a briefing. My guess is to cool some of the heat from the story and get the public to back off a bit. If its happened over recent weeks then why now? Why straight after the announcement regarding AM's transfer ban?

It can only mean one thing for me. Mbappé is a go. He will cost a fortune too, and I doubt we can buy two 100m players in one window, especially when one would have to be paid upfront.

A forward line of:
Mkhitaryan-----------------------Perisic
Lukaku
Isn't really much of an improvement over what we already had (and wasn't exactly working great) this season. A world-class, top tier player like Griezmann would have given us a new dimension.

Why is everyone convinced it's a briefing and not each journalist copying the other?

We don't brief the gospel, we brief what we want to get out.
Why would we brief that we don't want to sign a player if it wasn't true? What would we have to gain except for making journos look like idiots?

Seems more like saving face as Griezmann probably doesn't want to leave now (due to the CAS ruling or otherwise)

It seems it's Zlatans injury and not the CaS decision. Not sure I totally buy it, but it's definitely a kick in the teeth when I thought this was sown up!

Don't believe it. We've known about Zlatan's injury for a while now, and I highly doubt we'd be waiting for him to get fit at xmas time to go without a striker if that's what Jose wanted to do.

BOOM!

Many interesting repercussions. Costa stays put. Lukaku won't move to Chelsea. Giminez stays put as well as all their other defenders. Lacazette is available. And Griezmann? Watch this space.

You are so right.

I think we should now be considering the prospects of Griezmann wanting the Manchester move in January. But I hope not.
Backs up that earlier tweet that said he's out 3rd priority behind Mbappe and Morata...

Why is everyone convinced it's a briefing and not each journalist copying the other?
They wouldn't all say the exact same thing if it wasn't a briefing. When they're briefed they normally say very similar things. There's no sort of opinion added to any of these tweets - they're rallying what the club has told them most likely.

Sounds plausible. We know what it takes to get Griezmann - paying the buyout clause. In the meantime concentrate on a no.9 and other targets first. Could also be a briefing to get AM to accept the fee im the usual manner instead of all upfront

I don't get wanting Mbappe, I really don't. He obviously wants Real, he'd cost an insane amount, he's a child and we've got Rashford who I'd personally much rather see given a chance instead. That's not me saying I think the latter is a better player, but at this point no one really knows.

Cristiano Ronaldo also continues to be linked with a return to Old Trafford.

:wenger:

This is such bullshit

On the books any transfer of a player will be amortized over the duration the contract that is simply accounting standards. You buy a player for 5 years, you spread the cost of investment over those 5 years.

Has nothing to do with how that transfer will be paid which is a cashflow related matter. If United pays 85m in one lump sum it will still be amortized over the contract. The 2 things are unrelated as cashflow and accounting costs are 2 different things.

If Di Marzio is correct about our targets this summer, then it means we are after Mbappe, Fabinho, Kroos and Moratta. He mentioned Naingollan but also said we accept he won't leave Rome. So it basically means we're gonna get one of Mbappe or Moratta and one of Kroos or Fabinho. It'll be interesting to see which CF we get as it seems Moratta is of to Milan and the whole world is after Mbappe.
It probably also means we are not after Perisic as a high priority target so there are still 2 positions( a winger and CB) unaccounted for in our summer targets.

I'm assuming Atletico Madrid were being unreasonable about the how the transfer fee should be paid and it's why we decided to back off.
