A lot of people around here have recently criticsed Madrid for being heartless and not looking out for a players best interests. Isn't this pretty much the definition of a dick move from United?

No. We have gone as far as possible bidding +70m for him and Madrid still refuse. It's a dick move from Madrid forcing us out of the deal by asking over 90m and keep Morata by force even though he wanted to leave.

We did what we could.

Yeah dick move for not paying 90 million

Maybe he should have made more effort to force the move then instead of keeping Madrid sweet for a future return

That journalist has absolutely no idea what Morata is thinking and is making up a story out of thin air. Morata may have decided to stay at Madrid a couple of days ago, or we were never in advanced talks at all, or whatever else it's possible to dream up.

Not really, we bid a lot more than we should have for a teams third or fourth choice striker, them edpecting us to pay so much screwed this up, not us. I feel sorry for him but he has only one club to blame and that is Real Madrid.

No mate it is not a dick move by us at all. Madrid pricing him out of a move was a dick move.

The only club I could see buying James is PSG. I'd be shocked if any other club bought him. In fact I think we'd be the next most likely club to sign him and I see very little chance of that happening either. For his wages you expect a better player simple as that. He's on the wages of one of the world's best and the reality is he's merely very good. There are better options out there and the clubs that really want him win't be able to afford his wages. FFP has not disappeared btw despite many seeming to think it has. Atletico's transfer ban being upheld should be enough to kshow that it's not going anywhere soon.
I thought AM's ban was related to breaking transfer rules for young players, like what Barca was punished for. Hence nothing to do with FFP? Don't really know much about the status of FFP atm though...

The fact that Morata wants to move to play, that he will know that Perez for all he says he wants him to stay, wanted the money to buy Mbappe, so then overprices him which actually stops him moving to a club he wanted to come to. Morata must be seething.

And rightly so, I'd let my contract run down and push even harder to move if I were him.

Guy must be gutted. Doesn't look good on us.
He will be. Him and his new wife would like to know where they will be living for a start. This is all down to Perez, Morata will know he has been overpriced. That could be why his father and agent went to see Perez or maybe they had heard about United and Lukaku. They will be angry as well.

Do you believe this has all been done intentionally?
Of course it wasn't But the reports are that we had stopped trying to sign he for over a week now. I hope we were the first to inform him.

That is the bit that bothers me. If we have just ignored him and not told him what we were going to do. That would not be good at all. Classless.

How has he been bitten? He gets to keep a fantastic striker as sub for Benzema.

If he stays they won't get Mbappe. This has most probably messed up their transfer plans.

Sorry. I wasn't challenging you or having a go at you or anything of that nature. I was just interested given all this talk of smoke screens.

Could be possible that we informed Morata and his agent that we were going to sign Lukaku because we couldn't see eye to eye with Madrid on a fee? Maybe that is why his agent and dad both had that much publicised, albeit short, meeting with Perez and Madrid?

Why would it look bad on us exactly? RM were looking for close to €100 million for a player that spent the majority of last season polishing the subs bench with his bottom.

They over valued him and we walked away.

That has gone through my mind as well. Perez is a despicable little weasel.

Correct me if I'm wrong but FFP has gone to shit. Resident Real fans might be able to provide further info on the financial situation, but the way I see it, Perez and Real didn't want to sell Morata in the first place. I'm struggling to see how Woody did one on him/them. OK we snubbed their asking price, but it's a player they don't want to offload in the first place, not James Rodriguez.

James will leave too, some other big money clubs are just posturing as there is ample of time left in the window. He will be a 50m panic buy by August.

They are trying to keep morata, But he and every one knows he will not get the first team spot and they want mbappe, now they cant keep 3 strikers in this or next window. Who would be willing to match 90 m euros, apart from chelsea who also have more options in bellotti and abamyang who are more proven as of now than morata.

Again, I don't believe this for a second. If Mbappe was available for Real to buy, they'd move heaven and earth to get him. It's simply the case that he's indifferent at the moment and there is no urgency to move this window.

It's also possible Morata was well aware a move to united would only happen if Lukaku decided to go to Chelsea.

I'm sure players are often aware they are a second or third option and accept this is how it works.
