Transfer Tweets - Summer 2017 | Keep it on topic

Wish they'd report that in GBP. Now this will forever be 70 million pounds in everyone's mind.

Trust Souness to add £10 million more to it and say he's an £80 million player, then rip him to shreds when he doesn't score.

You really think we'll buy two out and out strikers?
Why not it would only leave us with 4 players who can play upfront but martial is seen as more of a winger anyways. Rashford and Belotti playing second fiddle to Morata who will obviously be the main man up top coins work well. Certainly would be scary for clubs to see united have multiple players who could bang in goals absolutely available.

About Perisic not being the standard a club like United should aspire for, I think that's a wild generalisation. Managers have their preferences, so do players. A successful transfer is all about who is available, which club is willing to sell, which player a manager prefers, which players want to go to which club, city or league and of course, finance. Di Maria was class as a player but his heart was not at United, so was he the best we could have gotten? Neymar is world class but what if living in Manchester would make his life miserable? What if Jose called Douglas Costa and said, 'Hey, I want you at United but be ready to rotate because I want Martial to get game time." But Costa said, 'I would like to come but I cannot play in a rotational situation again. It's either I am completely first choice or no deal." What if that's why Jose moved on?

Jose has admired Perisic for years. I remember his glowing comments about him at the last Euros (and Perisic was indeed one of the outstanding players of the tournament). What if he remains convinced Perisic is the best winger you can find out there? What if Perisic has told him he will do anything to play for United, comply with any rotational policy and accept the salary offered? What if a hundred other things?

Well, those are hypothetical but possible scenarios. Bottomline is that we hardly have enough information to understand the reasons behind some transfer moves.

We don't know. So just saying 'why don't they get Costa or Bale instead?' might just not cut it in the real world
I am firmly against the Perisic deal but I will admit that your post is a good one.

But I'm sure you can also appreciate the fact that some of the displeasure to the potential signing stems from the fact that Perisic is not an unknown player from anywhere. Anyone that appreciates football other than United would have known about him as he played for Wolfsburg and Dortmund, and even his current team, Inter, are teams that you can easily catch on the telly.
In all that time, Perisic had never struck me as anything more than decent. He is known to be very inconsistent too. He had a decent Euro campaign but so did Ramsey, and it wasn't enough imo to say "that's the guy that will get us anywhere".

He was the best player in the last 2 seasons for Inter but that isn't saying much either as there isn't much quality in that side anyway. He's not even in the top 10/15 players in Serie A imo.

We are going to be forking out a large sum of our transfer budget for a player who will be 29 soon, in or past his peak which in itself is not special. His side finished 7th, so should we be paying that much for a player whose team is in no European competition? Inter want the same money that City paid for a potential world class player in Silva. It's hard to stomach.

That said, the may be other reasons for this deal but until then I find it hard to look forward to this deal. I will be more supportive of he signs but I hope it doesn't come to that in all honesty.

Does Souness have his own TV channel or is he just a rent a quote?

Since this is the transfer forum i think this is the wrong place for our discussion about chance creation v conversion debate so i wont keep it going further than this. Regarding Perisic, I understand your point of view, especially about players being ready to play for a manager. and importantly, playing how the manager wants them to play.

Perisic is by no means a world class game changing player like Zlatan or Pogba, he's a transition player who IMO against packed defenses will do exactly what ashley young does for us, half beat a defender and cross the ball. But mourinho identified Perisic quite early as a target and even met his agent in Croatia, so there must be a good reason for it. There are a host of players that are younger and have more in their locker, can play on either wing so competition with Martial would not even be an issue (especially in mourinhos system where all positions rotate with each other anyway). But there must be good reason why Mourinho is set on Perisic. I'm curious to see why. But im not at all convinced. Lets wait and watch.

Good points mate.

So about 60 million pounds... Outrageous amount of money but not alot of good strikers around at the moment. Hopefully we snap up Belotti as well have a great young strike force.

Thought all deals have to be 5 years cause of brexit - so they can't be thrown out the country

Spaletti and Inter agree to put Gary Medel on the transfer market.
Seems they're trying to recoup that €30m they need to abide by the rules of FFP.

I reckon we will get Perisic for around that fee

They can count themselves lucky if they get 10m for Gary fecking Medel. Think they need to sell another 2-3 squad players.

Not this again. If they are so obsessive about these footballers news, why don't they screen capture the before AND after pics of their bio or whatever? It is not like it will be the first time it will happen

I AM SO ANGREEEEHHH! La la la la
