Neither of those things had anything to do with settling in, thats just because he's an average keeper. Ok a better wya to illustrate how much easier it is for keepers, you don't need to rotate your back up options. A keeper might go for most of the season with no games and then be thrown in at the end of the season and do a good job. You don't need the match fitness or awareness of tactics that would make that problematic for an outfield player being thrown in after a season of no football.

But those players are with the club and training regularly. Here we are talking about players who will be new to the league and may not even know the language.
