Draxler, Gotze, Griezmann, Isco? Chance we could maybe get one of these far easier than Muller, Bale or Neymar.

I really don't like all this "marquee signing" rubbish. City and Chelsea have done very well without any of that crap by buying solid, reliable performers.

Surely we have a replacement lined up if Evans and Blackett are going.
Smalling, Jones, Rojo, Blind, McNair and Carrick if desperate.

Sure it's not got the Rio/Vidic quality in there but it would be utterly pointless to bring someone in unless it's a genuine upgrade on what we have? Trimming the fat of Evans and Blackett is the right thing to do.

What´s the deal with Rojo? I haven´t been following United closely but i haven´t seen in lineup or called.

Fabregas, Costa, Sterling, De Bruyne would all be classed as marquee signings.

With the way our defenders seem to get injured and even more games this season, that would be suicidal..we struggled to line up with a defense last season and that was when we had only 1 game a week..

I think this season you will see Carrick play centre back on a number of occasions. With Blind, we have 4. Carrick would be a 5th. Despite what a lot of us think we need, a centre back won't be coming in.

It will cost us if we do..I remember when we played Carrick and Fletcher as defenders and got absolutely torn to shreds by Fulham..Carrick isnt a defender at all..Sometimes in games, what is needed isnt playing from the back but just good old fashioned defending..especially away from home where we dont have the greatest record..

If LVG has made the decision though, he isnt changing his mind..but it will be a decision he must live by if it fails..

Blind wasn't an option there last season but now we can play Jones, Smalling, Rojo, Blind, McNair back there

Last season our options were Jones, Smalling, Rojo, McNair, Evans, Blackett

Blackett played about 10 games last season, some at left back, and I don't think started a game after the one against Arsenal in the league in November which, even then, was his first appearance for about a month.

We did play Blind as a cb even last season..as a makeshift one, but we did..We can wish the best , but Samlling and Jones dont have the best injury records at all..it would really do us no harm bringing in another..especially since after Smalling there is a significant decline in actual quality of our defenders

There are defenders that are an improvement on that bunch if we are being honest..

Yeah he did, but there's no way you could consider Blind an option there because he was far too important in Midfield and cover at left back. This seasons he's clearly going to be used almost exclusively as part of the back 4.

Agreed - I'd prefer to see a mix of our current transfer approach and Sir Alex's the last few years, i.e. go for young players with potential that have it all to prove, but use our money to get the highly-rated youngsters rather than the Obertans and the Bebes, or missing-out on top prospects because of agent demands. We need to recognise that these calibre of players are unlikely to join United for the love of the club, so we need to show other aspects to motivate players to join us.

I fear getting established players who have already "failed" at the bigger clubs like Real and Barca are more likely to end-up like Di Maria than Sanchez, and at those prices and wages that's quite a risk for us to take. There would potentially be the risk of a few Nani and Andersons signed though, but if we can get more players like Ronaldo or DDG trying to play themselves into moves to the Spanish two then we might be better positioned going forward.

Even considering that, the fact that we had to play Blackett and Mcnair away at Arsenal last season shows how much injuries do affect us..and the quality thing again, the fact that there is such a lack of quality in our defense is an issue..

Smalling stands out, but none of the rest of the defense really does, and we can improve it..If we bring in someone , then he will offer competition, if our current defenders are good enough, then they will thwart out the competition...if not, they will be benched..At a club like ours, competition is always good..

Another attacker added. I can see them accepting a big money offer for a 32 year old, slightly injury prone, non German.

Ribery is struggling with his injury, so this signing could just be Bayern making sure that they don't need him anymore.

Hmmm... I still believe that, if we're interested in a marquee type signing, we could put close to £40m on the table for Robben, and Bayern would be a bit silly not to accept.

Also, I think Coman usually plays on the left when he's not up front. Would make sense that he's there to replace Ribery

That would be the stupidest offer in football history, 40m for a 31 years old winger, Robben is a great player but there is a limit.

Yeh that would be a bit daft on our part, even £30m sounds a bit much. He is a fantastic player but we'd be gambling on him having an immediate, albeit short, impact.

In terms of positions available and players who can fill them, they have a large abundance of options. Alonso, Martinez, Vidal, Thiago for their MF - add to that Rode, Kimmich and Lahm. For the more advanced positions, they have Ribery, Lewa, Robben, Muller, Gotze, Costa, and, if I'm not mistaken, hasn't Rafinha also played as a winger? Add Coman to that. Plenty options, can see them maybe allowing one of Ribery or Robben to leave.

We might be getting a bit desperate. We seem to want a big name signing, however, no-one (our main choices) is available. Plus, we would look a bit silly not buying someone after the Pedro debacle.

If you are worried about others opinion then imagine what people will think if we buy for the sake of it and at an exorbitant fee. If no one is available, we better keep our money and spend big on the next great available player in the next windows.

Nah. 40 million for a 31 year old Robben makes more sense than 35 for Andy Carroll. Nothing will top that.
