If you are worried about others opinion then imagine what people will think if we buy for the sake of it and at an exorbitant fee. If no one is available, we better keep our money and spend big on the next great available player in the next windows.

Oh yeah. Its just a theory built on the speculation from recent days.

I wouldnt mind Robben for under 20m, though. But it wouldnt be unlike us to over spend on him.

It will cost us if we do..I remember when we played Carrick and Fletcher as defenders and got absolutely torn to shreds by Fulham..Carrick isnt a defender at all..Sometimes in games, what is needed isnt playing from the back but just good old fashioned defending..especially away from home where we dont have the greatest record..

If LVG has made the decision though, he isnt changing his mind..but it will be a decision he must live by if it fails..

We may not see him as a centre back but he has qualities in that position that LVG likes, for example, his distribution. One of the reasons Blind is there right now.

Absolutely. He rates him.
Yeah. It's quite amazing how football goes. IIRC, Thorpe was the one who excelled in the reserves (youth) and I remember a lot of people having hope that he'll get a chance here.

In comes LvG, and McNair is in front of the pecking order. I'm not saying who's better of the 2 mind. Just goes to show - change of management will benefit some more than others.

Nah. 40 million for a 31 year old Robben makes more sense than 35 for Andy Carroll. Nothing will top that.

Robben won't leave. Take it from our perspective: even for 40 Million, we won't get an replacement as good as him and we don't need the money.

Don't be desperate people, it's a bit silly at the moment. We bought Coman because there's a good chance Ribéry will never return.

I think he likes McNair's confidence to bring the ball out. Thorpe was a strange one - had ability but club didn't seem to manage his development well at all.

Mendes isn't in a position to 'push through' anything, either Madrid cough up with an acceptable fee or he stays. There's nothing more to it.

Even if we sold DDG now because Madrid offered a bit more we'll have to cough up an extra £5m+ to get any replacement in at this point in the window so there's no point giving in now.

Let DDG rot in the reserves for a year. Might seem like cutting our nose to spite our face but it will be worth it in the long term.

Nobody fecks Bilbao about since they did it to Llorente for a year.

Short of De Gea wanting to discuss a new contract with us, I don't see why we'd even want to have a conversation with his agent at this point. It really winds me up that agents like Mendes clearly have a much bigger brief than just working on behalf of De Gea.

I'd bet big money that if this transfer does go through, then a chunk of the money Mendes earns on the deal will be paid by Real Madrid, not by David De Gea, and that neatly sums up what is wrong with the transfer system as it stands - clubs employing agents to work against the interest of other clubs!

I'm not desperate and i don't want him. Just bringing up Andy Carroll. Ha ha ha.

Reports in Italy saying that it is actually 28 - instead of 20 - millions of euros. Mental!

Is he really that good?

He seems very promising but 28m is a lot of money. I've seen him play in the youth UCL with PSG and he was impressive.

I know that ..and thats why I am saying LVG probably wont change it until something goes horribly wrong..I've just reached a point where getting annoyed with some of his decisions is just too tiring..we will see how it plays out..

Its almost like the selling club doesnt exist..at least they are less cocky that when this whole thing started..Ill be glad when its over and DDG is gone, either this year or next so that we can move on from this sad episode..

I've seen Ballauge talking on Sky and yeah it's like we're totally irrelevant in this whole thing, no mention of how this would leave us high and dry selling so late in the window

Its the same arrogance that got them in this mess in the first place, by thinking they could low ball us and we would meekly surrender..I hope Woody stands firm, just like we did with the Rooney saga in 2013..Hope Barca stuffs them too in the league and cups..

Surely we have a replacement lined up if Evans and Blackett are going.

I thought both McNair and Blackett served United admirably last season seen as they were dropped into deep end last season. I believed Blackett would eventually become a very capable centre-back. Its sad to see him basically, sold off.

Blackett was terrible last season. Genuinely terrible. Almost as bad as Evans.

McNair had a couple of bad games, but also some spectacular ones. It came as a big surprise considering that he was supposed to be the fourth choice from our junior CBs (and we also had 4 senior CBs). He looks very talented.

He really wasnt..it was the Leicester game that brought out the pitchforks, and he had been decent until then..He is a kid playing in his first season at such a big club, he might not have been the greatest, but people overstate how bad he was.

Even Mcnair had some absolute horrible games,Southampton and Swansea come to mind, but that is swept under the rug..This are young kids, they make mistakes, its how you learn.

Fabregas, Costa, Sterling, De Bruyne would all be classed as marquee signings.

Marquee players would be the likes of Messi, Ronaldo, Neymar, Bale (though not in my book), Muller and a few others. All these would cost a kings ransom. Sterling and De Bruyne are £20m to £25m players that a oil money rich club decided to pay almost anything to get. The other players you mentioned would only be supporting cast to the likes of Messi etc.

No I'm sorry you've got that all wrong. Ronaldo and Messi for starters aren't even generational talents, they're all time greats, evidently they're a level above anything else. Neymar, Bale and Muller are all examples of marquee players but they aren't the only ones. RVP was a marquee signing, as was Berbatov, Di Maria etc. it doesn't have to be the top 10 players in the world .

Why? Its not a crime to want to play for another club.

If he stays we need to re-build his confidence so that he starts to perform again and take his rightful place as first choice keeper for the remainder of the season. Don't forget, United were at fault for not offering him a new contract two seasons ago.

I haven't got the time to name every player that might be labelled "marquee".

Incidentally, what's your definition of a marquee player?

United are not to blame in any way shape or form for De Gea wanting away.

From what I can remember, DDG was still struggling before the 2013-14 season. Although he was improving, he was still having difficulty with crosses and the physicality of the Premiership. I might be wrong but I can't remember United offering him a new contract in 2014.

so McNair to Fulham (lots of speculation going around about a loan deal) Evans to WBA & Blackett to Celtic. Which defender are we signing!
Club are so cloak & dagger now...
