Does LVG think we have the second best striker in the world in Rooney? It is an absolutely ridiculous stance to take otherwise.

Ridiculous is an understatement.

Just to clarify, we've not the foggiest why Woodward flew to Barcelona. It was assumed he went there for the Pedro deal due to the media supposedly reporting an impasse.

Adding one and one together and it's pretty obvious why he went.

You're still assuming that our interest in Pedro was decisive. From Pedro and LvG's comments it seems our interest was real but not to the decisive point. As we've shown with other deals if we're interested we'll move quickly. That's the assumption here. Woodward could have gone to Barcelona for any other reason.

EDIT: It's a bit like The Sun now saying he actually went for Neymar. They've come to that conclusion by also supposedly adding one and one.

Many more will believe anything that looks bad.

What story puts us into bad light?

My view: We believe Pedro was worth 25+5 million euros (which is fair), Pedro was willing to join, Barcelona wanted more. Chelsea offered more and Pedro joined them. I don't believe we dropped our interest. I do, however, think we weren't fully committed in the deal (hence the haggling) and don't actually feel like he's much of a loss (mainly because may have someone else lined up).

Stating the obvious!

As much as Guillem is somewhat ITK, this is pure speculation and personal opinion.
99% to happen which makes it a safe tweet, but he doesn't even credit a close source. It's just him saying how he think it will go.
Nothing wrong with laying the groundwork for a future transfer I suppose.

I've made it clear in most my posts that our interest wasn't decisive. I also believe that Woody flew to Barcelona to convince them to accept our proposed offer of 25 and 5 in addons.

Many at the time were certain that Woody flew there to complete the deal, and now that it failed many people have changed their minds.

Edit: Lets end the debate. It's pointless as he's a Chelsea player and we have to move on.

We have really mastered that game.
It's funny how we have become so good at doing this.

What all that bullshit has to do with us? You think agent wont lie about interest from club so he could put pressure on Barca or tell some bullshit story to newspapers so they can all go in snowball motion? Hell even if we asked about Neymar and after never called again, agent will feed newspaper with that and act like we have mojor interest in his player.

Idiots gonna' idiot.

It just makes me laugh how, through our doing or not, so many top players renew their contracts immediately after reported interest from our club.

The same reports that gave you the idea of the haggling were wrong on something though, they said that Barcelona wanted 30m or nothing, but Chelsea bought him for 27m + 3m in Bonus. So how much wrong were they?

We are really good at making media invent stories or at making agents mentioning our name to get his player get a new contract. We have mastered it.

It is odd why people have such a defensive nature on this considering really it's not a bad reflection on us at all.

We had a certain set of conditions under which we would acquire Pedro, either the club or Pedro himself weren't in agreement and Chelsea satisfied the club's and players demands .

We were interested, we fell asleep as his agent said and Chelsea swooped in and met all the conditions in one swoop. It's not the first time and it won't be the last time we've lost out on a player.

That puts Barcelona in bad light. Like I said, we have a valuation of a player and it's good to see we persisted with it.

Sometimes I think LVG is being thick to wind us up but then I remember how he loves to do unorthodox things and come out on top to show the world how good he really is. It works a charm sometimes as was seen in the case of BFS getting moved to CM from a wide position, other times not so much like the 3-5-2 formation which was just not working but because of his twitchy arse we had to endure that horrible football.

Agree to end the debate. Just to note though our offer was supposedly €26m+€6m add ons. Chelsea's reported deal is €28m+€2m. So I fail to see why Woodward would fly to Barcelona if it's true Chelsea got that deal. There's no way we haggled over €2m more upfront for a player we really wanted. Anyway, my last say on it. As you said, he's a Chelsea player and that's that.

Last point, I think Woodward went to seal the deal i.e. it was on the verge of completion and Barcelona were willing to accept. Until Chelsea came in with a better offer, so they accepted theirs. Oh well.

Not so sure about that and its somehow logical to use our name in their agenda, our size as club, our current position, amount of money we can spent etc. Hope people dont expect from agent to scare Barca by mentioning interest from "lesser" club (not trying to offend anyone).

Agreement between Liverpool and Milan for Balotelli on a season-long loan.

He's absolutely right and everyone knows it. It's a nothing tweet but he's certainly not wrong to say it.

I didn't believe the media reports that we wanted Pedro.

I do, however, believe the media reports that we want Gaitan.

There must be someone who is better than Rooney of present. If he doesn't improve it will be LvG's job. Can't see how we are going to score.
There are loads of players who are better right now. That Wilson of Bournemeouth for example looks like he would offer us much more.
