We spent too long trying to negotiate the release clause, that doesn't mean we weren't interested, we'd agreed terms and spent a month trying to negotiate the deal. Chelsea came in and showed they'd just pay the whole thing immediately and Pedro felt more wanted by them.

We absolutely wanted Pedro but got complacent.

Only problem is that Chelsea were the first club linked with him.

Its amazing how everyone missing this out. Not only were they the first clubs linked, that were said to be the favourites to sign him.

I agree. I think, having agreed terms with Pedro, we felt the deal was in the bag and Barcelona would eventually agree to our terms. Little did we know, Chelsea were sniffing around and snapped him up with a better deal.

We need a winger to play on the left even before Di Maria left, now Di Maria has left we need a right winger and Van Gaal has already acknowledged this. For that reason I still think we will sign a right winger but I don't know who. That's why if we don't sign a good right winger I will be really annoyed because we missed out on Pedro. He may not be a creative force but will get you goals and is a very good player.

Exactly, that's something that I totally ignored myself, the press talked about contact with Mourinho the 12th July.

Mourinho did an interview where he was asked about Pedro, and he said that he didn't need Pedro as they had enough wingers at the club.

Or maybe Pedro wasn't our first choice? And after a month of us delaying whilst we tried to get other targets, he realized that.

Seems much more plausible to me than haggling over a few million for an entire month. Especially when the clause was quite reasonable in the first place.

Because of their bad start to the season.

We had a clear window to sign Pedro and spent too long trying to be clever.

He signed the day after Barcelona last super cup game, probably a coincidence.

Or priotitising other targets first. Time will tell if we were right to do so. Lets see Sept 1st.

And he signed him.

Ballague went as far as stating that terms were agreed and we were steps away from completing the transfer. Then Chelsea rekindled their interest and took him from us. Why is that hard for so many to comprehend?

Like what happened with Torres to Pool? I'm not saying we wasn't interested. I'm saying it not entirely inconceivable that he may not have been the no1 target. Esle had he been we probably would have pulled the trigger.

Neymar? Seems to me that Woodward must have been fed information from Neymars agent about this apparent "interest" that resulted in us calling off the Pedro deal.

And well all know what this interest means... Pay rise for Neymar!

Or maybe someone who the press havn't written about. Lets wait and see, its only a week. If we don't get a RW in thats a better choice than Pedro then we can hang Woody, if we do, then whats the problem really anyway?

We were obviously not that serious about signing him if he went to Chelsea. As LvG said, the player had a buyout clause so it was a simple transaction if United were interested.

I don't disagree with this, at all. Like I said in my previous post, we must have been informed of this Neymar rubbish or Woody simply wants to add a huge name to our team (Bale, Muller, Neymar etc.)

I think we deemed the Pedro transfer as not essential, hence the fee we proposed. That, I fear, may bite us in the a**e.

If there's one thing everyone should know by now about Mourinho when it comes to transfers its that you should never believe anything he says.

Whether it's about buying or selling he never tells the truth to the media.

Doesn't even have to be a huge name. Example we dropped Clyne interest for Darmian. Maybe just maybe there is someone else who we're looking at.

Very true

Because you are believing the least straightforward answer, Sport who is a Catalan paper stated that Pedro chose Chelsea in July and Pedro joined Chelsea.
But you claim that they were wrong and that he didn't agreed to sign for them but for us, that Chelsea weren't that interested and they only rekindled their interest because of a bad start.

I don't actually rate him much. I just think that those who assume we dropped our interest are being naive. We felt we could acquire him on the cheap, but it failed.

I don't think we dropped our interest tbh, I do believe however we were stalling some what.

Oh, we're looking for a big name, that's for sure. We could get Berahino or Anderson to fill the gaps that need filling. But I don't think LvG's entirely interested in the likes of those two or Lacazette or Griezmann (Pedro, too). However, Woody seems to be pursuing a very expensive "luxury" player.

Well we'll find out in a week :)

No, I'm not. I don't read Spanish papers so I wasn't aware. I saw an interview about Mourinho stating that he had no interest in Pedro. We were linked with him for two months, and many were reporting that the deal was very close. Ed Woodward even flew to Barcelona to convince them to accept our deal. Looks to me that we were interested, and for one or more reasons, he's joined Chelsea and not us.

Well all of us are reading lots of reports not knowing what is true. So nobody is naive in this stroy cause nobody knows the full truth. For instance Pedro's agent said we didn't show much interest in him. So if some believe that are they naive?

I don't agree with that. Simply because Chelsea's reported agreed deal was a mere €2m more than what our supposed offer was upfront. I think we were interested but we were monitoring other targets thus he wasn't as high a priority. Chelsea made him their priority which is why he ended up there and not at City or United. You seem to ignore that City also didn't move on their interest as he mentions. His comment implies Chelsea showed a clear and direct intention to sign him which is why he went there.

Seems to me many will believe any story which favours us.

Two things the links begun, the 18th July with Marca saying that we entered in negotiation for Pedro, which is a week after the reports of a deal almost done by Sport and Marca. And until today no one saw Woodward in Barcelona, the same people who claimed that he was there for Pedro are now saying or backing the Neymar story.

Just to clarify, we've not the foggiest why Woodward flew to Barcelona. It was assumed he went there for the Pedro deal due to the media supposedly reporting an impasse.
