I thought a single player isnt bigger than the club?

If theres a chance we can acquire a new striker, then bench Rooney. Not sure why thats too hard to understand.

Everyone understands, it just won't happen.

Don't know who this striker is that people think is going to come in and is better than Rooney.

Rooney would quite obviously play behind the new striker (if we get one that is).

Honestly, if we get a new striker who's better than Rooney, then Rooney should probably just be dropped. Rooney's an excellent number 10 when his overall game is on form, but that's not been the case lately. He could potentially at least get us a decent number of goals up front, but unless he significantly improves, he'd be a liability in a deeper role. Certainly, I'd rather have someone like Mata or Herrera there.

I don't see us signing anyone. Set our sights too big. Pedro was available and we should of signed him a while ago.

If that's true, we must have a new signing imminent.
We got rid of RVP without bringing in a replacement. We got rid of ADM without bringing in a replacement. Why would this be any different?

I can see Januzaj being let go on loan and nobody coming in to replace him, which will leave us short when the inevitable injury crisis hits us at some stage. It seems like bizarre logic from my part, but we seemingly gave up on Pedro so we could bring in Mane so it's about right.

Because LvG is all about balance. Given that he isn't a fan of Herrera's positioning, we wouldn't have other 10's who would bring up the ball from midfield like Adnan. Maybe Pereira could do the job, but that remains to be seen.

Your guess is as good as mine, we don't really know what happened. IMO, we put the Pedro deal on hold because Woody was deluded enough to think Müller would be a realistic target, which backfired.

I actually refuse to believe woodward is that stupid.

I refuse.

Here's the tweet with a link to the article.

I think he'll lose his spot to Fellaini pretty soon but if LvG doesn't fancy Mata as a #10 then Adnan is the best alternate option to add something different and mix it up with the mop.

yep

I'd rather be linked with those names instead of neymar, bale, pogba, alves, ramos etc etc.
You should let the media know. They'll be more than happy to link us with realistic players if they know that there's an untapped market of people like you.

I agree that he should be dropped if we get a better player, but maybe it's time to just accept the fact that it's not going to happen. He hasn't even been subbed in the first three games.

It's probably because he's the captain. I think VG said that hia captain always plays, but maybe if we bring in another attacking option things could change. After all he dropped our record signing for playing like shit, so no one should be an exception to the rule.

He was subbed against Brugges.

Why was he subbed then other than cause of his performance?

He was subbed with 5 minutes to go for Fellaini. It was quite clearly because Van Gaal wanted to put Fellaini in the box and depend on some of the crosses for a third goal, to add some physicality to our attack. If he was subbed because of his performance, it'd have happened earlier in the game.

He could have subbed Fellaini instead of someone else but it was Rooney. In other words he doesn't have a problem with subbing him.

If that was the case, he would have been subbed off in the first two Premier League games as he was abysmal. Van Gaal have already said that the captain always plays, so it's quite simple.

Subbing Rooney when he's playing like shit and subbing him when there are 5 minutes left to probably give him a little break before our next Premier League game, are two entirely different things. It probably was a fitness decision and it just coincided with the need for Fellaini's physicality in the end of the game.

People are too worked up with that 'my captain always plays' line. He wont have a problem with dropping him if he'll continue to be shit. He has proved that in the past, dropping his captains.

I think hes currently giving Rooney every chance, you saw what happened when Mou subbed Terry. No doubt if Rooneys performances continue, the he will be subbed/benched. You can see he is not very sentimental (got rid of RVP)

But where would we even fit a striker? The problem is that Rooney is our striker, and being captain he's not going to be replaced. The fact that he's captain is causing us huge issues as it means we're stuck with him regardless of how bad he is. So if we buy Messi and Ronaldo we have to accommodate them around Rooney, and we're still going to have problems.

If we really have to play Rooney, which surely an experienced manager wouldn't do to himself, then we could play him at #10 where he's at least useful.

This transfer window is so boring right now :) When Neymar is the only thing media is talking about, they really don't know shit about anything.
